j the teacher Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 As per a recent Avanti Magazine, there was a picture of a 4-door Avanti mold sitting in an abandoned(crumbling) warehouse. Wouldn't the studebaker international museum would be interested in that. If not, surely someone would. I wonder if Cafaro would arrange to donate it, since he is the closest/most recent owner (not on trial) of the Avanti Automobile Corporation.
Gunslinger Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I think that would be a good suggestion. I make a motion now for the AOAI Board of Directors to consider doing so. They can decide whether to make a formal request of the Studebaker National Museum to investigate that possibility or directly to the Cafaro's. Since there is no Avanti National Museum, the SNM is the natural venue to receive the mold. Since the mold is located at the old Youngstown factory, and I assume the Cafaro's still own it and the contents, then the mold belongs to them. Maybe they could take a nice tax break by donating it, assuming they haven't depreciated it completely by now. There's also the possibility of some Avanti aficionado obtaining it as a collectible, but I see that as less likely. If no one asks, then the answer is always no.
j the teacher Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 I went to the Studebaker National Museum website and sent a message to the Curator. We will see what happens....
