Does anybody have parts knowledge of 70's AMC or Ranchero parts. I have some custom outside mirrors on my 63 Avanti that I got at the local Pick a Part way back when. The pass side one is broken and I need to replace it but do not remebre what I got it from.

THANKS NICK

Your current mirrors look very similar to a style sold in many auto parts stores like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc. The mirror bodies are either chrome or plain so they can be painted whatever color you like. The mounting stems are also chrome rather than paintable.

For parts for AMC or different model Fords, try Year One for many reproduction parts. You might also try Speedway Motors as they're a street rod specialist supplier.

Nick,

If they were painted and not chromed when you got them they are, most likely off of a Gremlin or Hornet (or similar "sporty" AMC) from the '75-'80 range. The housing shape and stem are identical to my '82's chrome mirrors (AMC sourced as well) with the identifier(s) being the shape of the housing, specifically the "flare" at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions that give the mirror glass its distinct shape and the "flute" in the narrow edge of the stem.

I have a copy of "The Last Independant" book about the history of AMC and several Gremlin / Hornet / Spirit trim packages pictured have these painted mirrors (Levis Gremlin anyone?). IIRC, AMC had multiple base / stem angles for various models (Ambassador, Matador, Gremlin, all different).

Hope it helps!

I can rule out Ranchero parts.

Ford made a similar mirror in the 70s, but it was more pointed.

My sister had them on a Pinto and I had them on a Mustang.
