Racers Edge for STP

Hardtop looks, but with a solid "B" pillar...? Plus Avantis had the quintessential Studebaker "speedboat" cowl to define the windshield area and Loewy had oversight in both designs.
-
I bought one of John's plate frames and can state that they are very well made, look exactly like the Studebaker accessories as shown in the brochures of the time and are a definite asset to my Avanti. Bob Hawley - Avanti 63R-3062

I would think that Raymond Loewy would have insisted on NO external trunk release and for good measure no (or worthless) sun visors. I would venture the statement is false

Since the original question was asked for the Avanti II, is the radiator support function different on a 1963-64 Studebaker Avanti?
-
Not even close, Gunslinger, but that is a funny comment I swear that I have only had non-sexual relations with an Avanti! Though they are sexy cars, IMO.
-
AFAIK, Leno owns no Avantis

Base price for 1963 & 1964 R-1 was $4445 and $4843.30 (with 4-speed) for the R-2 making a difference of $398.30. What am I missing in your original question?
-
Well, I'm impressed with that bit of trivia...
-
How about $398.30 more for an R-2
-
Can't be true as question is written because there were no 1954-55 Hawks - V-8 or otherwise. (Yeah, picky, I know , but what a difference an "and" can make)
-
Well, I know that Doehler designed the interior, so I guess his had a special interior...?
-
Nope, not true 67 3-speeds in 1963 and 11 in 1964

My 1963 Avanti is a driven car and since it has a rather large front painted surface, I am inquiring about protection from stone chips, etc. Please share info/opinion if you have used a vinyl bra and/or the 3M clear applique or other protectors and the results. Any recommendations? Thanks, Bob

The thread on the SDC site now includes pics of the original sticker - Good info. Thanks for the reply Gunslinger...Bob (63R-3062)

I was doing some research on my 1963 Avanti (#3062) at the Gilmore Library and found some information in the 1960-1969 Catalog of American Cars (compiled by Cars & Parts): The ID article stated that there was a paint code sticker/piece of paper attached to the bottom of the glove box on Avanti's that gave the paint code(s). I do not have one on my Avanti. Has anyone seen one of these stickers and/or have a piucture of how they looked? Did other Studebaker models share this sticker? Is there truth to this information? Inquiring minds...Bob (and thanks for your comments)

Howdy, I recently became aware that after the Thursday Concours the attending Studebakers are to parade thru South Bend. Since the AOAI awards dinner is also on that same night, will the Avantis in attendance be part of that event or will those attending the AOAI dinner have a seperate route/parade. I do have an Avanti (#3062) and do plan on attending the AOAI dinner...Thanks for your responses, Bob

Should I use TYPE F OR TYPE FA in my 63 Avanti automatic power shift transmission? Car Quest does not offer TYPE F in their brand.
Pep boys in Kalamazoo, MI, had type F ATF in quarts in their store brand as well as Pennzoil (and another major brand I can't recall at this moment) as of last week.. (your store's availability may vary)

First post:
Howdy all, I am pleased to report that after searching for 2 years, I have acquired my dream car from a SDC and AOAI member in Georgia. A turquoise1963 R1 with deluxe (not Regal) black and fawn interior, factory AC, AT, TT, AMradio and rear speaker with Vibrasonic (reverb). Pricey (for me), but everytime I see it I am not at all disappointed: guided by JDP's mantra that thereis nothing more expensive than a cheap Avanti.
In 1998 the car had a frame off restorationby Jim Sinclair (Expressly Avanti in PA) for Ron Beardsley (the original owner/bought new), wassold in 2008 to Jim Carto in GA and then on to my stewardship in 2012 as thethird owner for the duration.
The SNM build sheet shows that the Avantiwas originally shipped to New Orleansand I am trying to make an ownership trail that will stay with the car. SinceMr. Beardsley lived in Vermontat the time the car was restored, I am trying to make the connection betweenthe selling dealer (Crescent City Motors at 2001 St. Charles St., N.O. LA.) and howthe car ended up in the north. The second owner bought the Avanti from Florida, where Mr.Beardsley lived at the time.
I talked to Dave T-bow who knew the car, original owner and about the restoration. He directed me to call the last phonenumber that he had for the original owner, Ron Beardsley, but the number wasdisconnected. Does anyone have any information on Mr. Beardsley, who was amember of the John Ebstein AOAI chapter in Florida and also a SDC member? I would enjoyadding to my knowledge about my Avanti by talking to him.
I am proud to finally be an Avanti ownerand it will provide another reason to look forward to the non-winter seasonswith my new companion. Any information to further the history of my Avantiwould be greatly appreciated...Bob

False - I thought that all Avanti frames were from the HD Lark frame. Never heard of frame "options."
