I've found my Avanti's water sealing abilities to be marginal at best and, yes, all the seals are in place, soft, pliant and adjusted correctly. I would never use a pressure washer or even a strong stream of water directly onto the glass areas of my Avanti just to avoid the issue of which you speak. Someone else may chime in, but I see no way to adjust the rear quarter latches. Bob (63R3062)

Dave Thiebault offers the 6" wide Ford wheel new and powdercoated in the correct Studebaker "white" at a competitive price. Powder Coating can be expensive and I found it to be cheaper to buy them already powdercoated and ready to install. I am very pleased with Dave's wheels. Support our vendors they are the life's blood of our Avanti community. Bob 63R3062

What an incredible resource has been created by the diligent work of Avanti mavens. I'm amazed at the quality of pics and information. Looks like I've got some more work to do on R3062 - ha. Kudos to all involved

Howdy Larry - I'm running same as you 205 75R15 - they fill the wheel well with no interference when turning or bumps. You can get Ford wheels cheaper but when you factor in powder coating Dave's are cheaper. I priced powder coating locally and found that they had no color that matched, Dave's are the correct color. Cheers Bob

Dave Thibeault sells the correct offset in a Ford 6 x 15 and they are even powder coated the original color - beautiful wheels and Dave is a vendor that I frequent. You have to buy the lug nuts with bigger shoulders to securely mount them. Work perfectly on my 1963 and have had no trouble with the wheel covers coming off. Bob

I was thoroughly annoyed by the noise in my Avanti with the after market 7 blade (Olds Cutlass?) fan that came with the car. I replaced it with the 5 staggered blade "standard" OEM Studebaker supplied fan and a new fan-clutch and am now pleased that I can finally hear the sound of the R-1 289 through glass pack mufflers burbling at speed - Avanti heaven! And the running temp hasn't changed one bit.

Please play nice, gentlemen - I saw no reason to take offense at Brad's #11 comment and I, for one, HIGHLY value his expertise in the Avanti field and would miss his ability to share his wealth of knowledge on this or any other forum. If he was closer he would be my go-to guy to take the best care of my Avanti...nuf said...Bob (63R-3062)

Must be the Super Lark as Studebaker might have been trying to "up" the Lark's image...or?

Well said!...I have the answer...but folks seem to feel I put the answers up too quickly (dapy, etc), so I'll post back on this in about two weeks?...OK?
I didn't see the post where this was "decided" (or lobbied by dapy) ...You are doing a yeoman's job at this task that you have single-handedly taken on and I am more than satisfied with YOUR previous time frame for revisiting and posting answers. Two weeks is too long to wait, IMO. Thanks for your efforts, Bob

I'd say false as I believe the original intent was to have the gas tank where the spare would eventually be located and the spare was supposed to be exposed and visible through the rear glass

And one for me - makes three

The throttle pressure rod from the throttle linkage is set too strong and/or fluid level is low.

False

He considered it very "aircrafty"

I believe that was an homage to Egbert ( a pilot) and created an exotic look, but don't know what Andrews thought about it: waiting to be informed...

Given how Altman-Newman read the market for the Avanti (less "sporting" ), installing 'less stiff' aftermarket springs would have accomplished two goals.

I'd say head light alignment because it was probably one of the more noticeable things a driver would see (or not depending upon the factory "aim.") after driving and it was a safety issue. Given the standards for production at the time, I would think that a glove box being out of whack was expected for the period . If that is not the answer, I know what the answer is...!

Incredible amount of 1963 money (over $7.7 million in today's value) to be spent by Studebaker to promote their line for a company that knew they were going to pull the plug on auto production. Desperate times...

Wow, who knew? (not me!) Yet another bit of bragging rights for our favorite marque.

As a local man, probably Notre Dame...

Depending on one's attitude and thirst for knowledge, the questions can be considered trivial, esoteric, confounding or useful. I find the knowledge being imparted by the many Avanti friends and the increased interest on this site as all positive. I love my 1963 R1 and having contextual historical information on my favorite marque enhances the stewardship of it. IMHO, "keeping track" is NOT what this is about for me as we all have the opportunity to join into the experience. Further, I really appreciate "mfg's" willingness to keep this going - Thank you for your continued efforts.
As for your question, I believe that Kelly contemplated the changeover to Caprice chassis for the 1989 Avanti (per John Hull), but don't know when the changeover was actually done.

I'd say 10% less because the Avanti roll bar was not as structurally integrated as most roll bars are (usually a welded cage).

Loewy?

Guess: the initial goal was to determine two or four passenger space...or trading passenger space with trunk space (as the required engine space was known given the parameters of the engine placement in the Lark frame)?
Correct Fluid for Power Shift Transmission

My Avanti mechanic (a Studebaker owner) recommends Type F because he says it gives a firmer shift. I totally agree, the 2-3 shift in my car is definitely firm (and I like it that way). Thoughts? Bob (63R3062)
