mfg Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 (edited) The Bendix/Dunlop disc brakes, as used on the 1963 Studebaker Avanti, was at the time a distinct improvement over front drum brakes, and an advancement (front disc brakes) that the entire domestic auto industry began using soon after. Be that as it may, can anyone name SIX negatives concerning the Bendix/Dunlop disc brake system (when compared to later 'floating caliper' type front disc brakes)? Edited September 20, 2017 by mfg
grobb284 Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 1. Requires more complex parts. 2. More opportunities to leak 3. More time to install in production. 4. More time to manufacture. 5. More time to service. 6. Pay licensing fees to Dunlop

Pay licensing fees to Dunlop Well grobb284, I'd say that those are six good reasons......., but believe it or not only one, (#5), is in the six I had! Can anyone else come up with a few more?
Ron.Strasser Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 1-solid Rotor rather then vented. 2-Need to use shims to center the calipers 3-small brake pads 4-Expensive to manufacture and install 5-Complicated too many parts 6-grobb284's answer More time to service
