Dbuck4141
Does anyone have the correct choke circuit for an 82 that they are willing to share. My problem is that when I just hooked up the battery after winter storage, the choke light came on blinking. When I turn on the ignition it does not change. It blinks the entire time that the battery is connected. Any help will be greatly appreciated. DAN
dynolou2
You might check on Johnstones sight. If you unplug the wire that goes to the electric choke mechanism does the light go out? Also did you check to see if there was voltage at the plug in ? There should be with the key on or motor running. You may have a short in the choke heater. mfg
I had this problem in my '83 Avanti 'everyday driver', and it turned out to be a defective choke relay....available at a GM parts counter....I think I can get you the part number if you need it. Dbuck4141
I found and solved the problem. It was the security system. The system was activated when the battery was connected and was also preventing the car from starting. After a lot of calling and chasing around, I found that the installer had not used the original on/off switch from the factory installed security system and had used a pole on one of the other switches. I was then able to turn it off and start the car. During the security system install they also rewired the choke and took the relay out of the circuit. The choke is working fine and the car runs fine so I am going to leave everything alone. The security system also has an glass protection sensor system and a ridiculous amount of wiring. I also found out that if the security system creates problems in the future, disconnecting it will turn it off and the car will no longer be disabled.
