studegard
Just browsing thru the SDC judging manual and came across the comment that clear coat paint is not acceptable. Does this hold true for a restored 1963 Avanti or is an Avanti judged differently?
dynolou2
Well if you're shooting for being authentic, clear coat paint wasn't available. It gives a greater gloss and depth. At the most it may cost you a couple points. The type of paint used Avanti by the factory is no longer readily available, lacquer is a bad word in california. Not sure how old your rule book is -there have been judging changes. Lou Cote
mfg
Lacquer is a bad word because of federal VOC regulations....Also, it doesn't stand up to the weather very well....but on a show car under flourescent lighting, there is still nothing like it. (IMHO) It can still be ordered, in Avanti colors, from companies specializing in custom paints.
