It's a good idea to change out an Avanti's ignition ballast resistor every few years.....True?

I once used a ballast resistor with a "Corvair" engine in an airplane (a Pietenpol). After a couple years it failed at the crimp ends where the connecter is fastened.

So I would say that it's true.

Although changing out an old ballast resistor might be considered good 'preventive maintenance', the truth is those things can go on forever, and they REALLY only need to be changed should they fail...Answer....FALSE!
