Guest Larry Delazzer Posted May 8, 2015 Report Posted May 8, 2015 This may be old news to Avanti veterans but I had a door that just didn't want to latch properly and would sometime pop loose when body was flexed just so. I was blaming the new weather stripping, adjustment of the window, bad latch, etc., etc. After examining the latch I determined it was functioning perfectly, closer examination revealed the hook had worn considerably and didn't exhibit much of it's original profile. So, I used my trusty Dremel and a small carbide bit to grind a hook back into the worn hook to match the original profile - it now works perfectly and I enjoy a very satisfying, solid "chunk" when I close the door. This forum has been very helpful for me so thought this information might be helpful to another Avanti owner suffering from the same problem. In fact this would be one of the first places I would look.
StudeNorm Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Great post... The latches are prone to wear and letting the folks know what you did to fix the problem is what the forums are all about. Don't worry if you think it may be "old news"... sometimes a quick post may jog a memory or even an urge to "take care of that same problem on my car"... we all know what I mean.
