mfg
The Studebaker Avanti shop manual suggests a 'putty rub' applied over the primer coat before final painting of an Avanti body panel. What did Studebaker mean by 'putty rub'?

mfg
Not exactly....A 'putty rub' is a thin application of 'red putty' or 'red lead' over a primed body surface to fill in any fine scratches, pinholes, etc. The putty is usually 'blocked' sanded with 220 grit wet & dry sandpaper, before a final application of primer and then the finish topcoats of paint.
