mfg Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 All '56-'64 Studebaker automatic transmissions, including the Avanti Powershift, are based on the same Borg Warner 'model 8' transmission design....True?
bigdaddy Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 (edited) This is kind of a loaded question, because "most" automatic transmissions of the era have similarities. Just my opinion, but to me the powershift is a brother to Fords Cruise-o-matic or FMX. Must be a BW thing! But I'll say TRUE ! Edited September 9, 2014 by bigdaddy

Just my opinion, but to me the powershift is a brother to Fords Cruise-o-matic or FMX. Must be a BW thing! But I'll say TRUE ! It really is a 'loaded' question......because '63-'64 Studebaker 6 cyl. cars used a completely different, lighter, two speed transmission based on the two speed Fordomatic (Think 6cyl. Falcon!) Answer to this question is FALSE.
64Avanti Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 That 6 cyl transmission was if I remember correctly is a Borg Warner model 35 which was also produced under license in Japan.
