hammy56J Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I have a low mileage 1985 Avanti with a Skytop sunroof that the glass has become disconnected from the drive mechanism. Are there any tricks to removing the headliner to access the drive system? Is there any information on the web for repair procedure?
billy Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I have a 87 Avanti & I had a water leak in the Skytop, so I had to remove it & re-glue it to the roof. It was awhile ago & I don't remember any problems. Check the Avanti magazine for articles, I know there was at least one article. bill
mfg Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 The last moonroof I worked on was on an '83 model. The moonroof could be disconnected and removed through the roof top opening, and the drive could also be accessed through a service panel in the headliner behind the rollbar. I didn't have to remove the headliner itself to accomplish the repair. This was also a Skytop brand moonfoof.
hammy56J Posted June 26, 2014 Author Report Posted June 26, 2014 Thanks for the information. I was able to find the repair procedure from Chuck Lampman in Bob Johnstone's web site. The drive pin had come out, I also improved the seals while I was at it. Wayne
