Pmaenner
Hi Everyone, Been searching around and can't seem to find the info. On a stock R1, what should the primary and secondary resistance of the ignition coil be? Also, what should be the resistance of the ballast resistor when its cold? Thanks! -Pete
Corley
I think you I'll find that a typical 12volt coil, with external ballast resister will have a primary resistance of 1.5 -2.0 ohms. If it has an internal resistor, it will run around 3.0 - 4.0 ohms. In both cases, the the secondary will be around 9000 - 10000 ohms. High performance coils will often have a lower primary resistance, and should not be used with your points system. If your car is a later model and has an SBC high energy system, the primary will be around 1.0 ohm.
