BillCA63R1 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Share Posted September 13, 2012 My R1 water temperature runs 180-205 at highway speed in the California desert (air temp 95-105) but much hotter in traffic or when idling. There is a six (6) blade radiator fan available that is said to move more air at the expense of more noise. Has anyone tried this replacement fan? How was the cooling and sound? PackardV8 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Share Posted September 13, 2012 The Avanti with AC six blade fan and thermostatic clutch does help the cooling. However, you must already have AC, as I can't imagine driving an R1 without air in the California desert at 105 degrees; that would be the nth circle of hell. Anyway, when cruising down the highway and the fan clutch does engage, the first thought is "We're being straffed by a Stuka!" The noise increase is definitely noticeable.
