Luma
Anyone with a manual transmission in their Avanti II that has the mechanical linkage still in place. I need some pictures of the the layout. I think I have all the parts but have a few questions. Do I use the bellcrank mount on the engine or the bellhousing? Is there special gas pedal linkage assembly as it looks like the bellcrank (Z bar) will jam up the gas pedal linkage. I thought I had everything in order but cannot finish up just yet. Any help greatly appreciated.
jmenacker
Mike Myer at Myer Studebaker is quite familiar with the mechanical linkage set up on the Avanti. Give him a call. He helped set us up for our conversion on RQB 3496. http://www.myersstudebaker.com/ Our mechanic ended up going hydraulic, so pics of ours won't help. Luma
Thanks Joe and like your new interior. That is the perfect color. I got all your pictures from the site on the transmission swap and it was very helpful. I will check with Jon and see what he has to say too. Thanks again, Luma
jmenacker
Some left over mechanical clutch linkage parts might just still be in the garage. If you need anything, it won't hurt to post here. I'll ship what ever can be found on hand for the cost of postage. Joe M in WV
Luma
Joe! That would be awsome and I'll gladly pay for your time and trouble too! Here are some pictures of the parts I have. just click into to see http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0226.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0229.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0230.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0231.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0232.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0233.JPG http://home.nycap.rr.com/schlumpfs/DCP_0234.JPG Also click enlargen box on lower right. If you can take a picture of the steering box area near the frame, there may be a bracket there and also from the same area, the gas pedal linkage that your car has now . It should run up the block near the oil filter area and over the transmission to block area. THANKS AGAIN, Luma
jmenacker
Luma: I haven't forgotten you -- just been tied up cutting in a garden for mother's day! Not much was found in the garage regarding clutch linkages. I'll post a pic tomorrow of a single bracket with push rod. If time allows, I'll try to get a pic from under the car of the acellerator linkage on the engine side of the firewall. Joe M in WV
jmenacker
Here are some pics of the spare linkage. It appears to be the link that attaches to the clutch pedal. Let me know if it might be of use to you or anyone else. It might be a while until a good pic from under the car can be managed . . . Luma
Joe, Thanks but I have that part. It looks like the anchor the return spring mounts to under the dash. Did you get a chance to look at the parts from my posting above? I saw a great picture in John Hull's new Avanti book of an early II frame with a 4 speed, and its the drivers side view. If only I could blow it up! Thanks again for your time. Luma
