  1. Sky-top roofs were originally manufactured in St. Louis, Mo. They provided a lot of the sunroofs directly to Avanti. My 84 had a Sky-top roof, I am not sure when they discontinued using these in Avantis. Ernie retired and sold the business to Midwest Metal Fabrication of New Haven, Missouri in late 1991. They are somehow associated with Wenning Enterprises which has a website. They are located at 201 E Industrial Dr New Haven, MO , 63068

I talked to them earlier this year and they indicated they still make and supply parts for the roofs but no longer repair them.

They indicated that the son of the former skytops parts supplier also located in St. louis, Auto Air Company now has a repair shop in Union Missouri and will repair these. I have misplaced his name and number but calling Midwest should provide that information.

I also know that Dan Booth has parts for Sky-tops.

  2. I sold a 50 Commander Starlight several months ago and the buyer used Passport Transport. She was extremely pleased with them. You need to check as some carriers will have local tow trucks pickup the car and haul it to a lot where they pick up from. You pay extra for enclosed transportation and they do not tell you it will be transported to a lot where is may sit outside for some time and the transport is via open flat bed. So you might ask if they pick up directly from the sellers location.

Passport parked their truck on a major road as it was too long to get down my deadend street and turn around and they walked to my house and drove the car onto their truck.

  3. It appears the vacuum actuator valve for my heat riser is broken as it will not stay attached to the heat riser. Does anyone know exactly what 305 engines were used in these cars? I have a touring coupe. I have been doing searches on the net and my valve looks similar to what was used on corvettes in the late 70's, it does not look like those used on Camaro and Monte Carlo in 1984.

I noticed the valves for the corvettes must have gold plating as they are asking over $100 for used ones. If I cannot find one at a reasonable price I will have to take the CASO route and spice a new ball socket on the end of the rod.

    Thanks

PS I attached a picture of my valve

  4. I am a member of the AOAI Memorabilia Committee. We received a memorabilia donation and it included a nice BRA for what we think is a 1964 only Avanti. The person that donated it had a 64 Avanti. It has square headlights. I have an 67 Avanti and I tried it on it to see if it fit and it does not seem to fit correctly where it connects to the wheel wells. Thus we are thinking it may be a 64 only item. It is in nice shape and I can take some pictures.

What we are looking to do is to swap this for some other Avanti memorabilia as this does not quite fit with the rest of the collection.

If you are interested please send me a note of what you would be willing to swap for it.

As a side note, the AOAI Memorabilia collection continues to grow and we are always looking for donations of literature and memorabilia. (this includes issues of the Avanti magazine). There are 5 of us on this committee and we meet one night a week filing, logging, etc the pieces within the collection.

    Thanks

  5. I stayed in the Avanti House for a week. It cannot get much better than waking up each morning and looking out to see the Studebaker Museum. I really look forward to Don having all his Avanti memorbilia hanging on the walls once it is completed.
