  1. not sure if you got a reply but

I sent mine to a company called Window Motor World inc 1-800-252-2649 windowmotorworld.net

I had my mechanic take my whole window regulator out and I shipped it to them. I got my window regulator back with a new motor, thicker cables, new pulleys, cleaned it all up and guarantee it for 1 year. They turned it around in a few days. Save your time and energy in trying to find out what Avanti Motors used and have these guys do it. You will get back a complete widow regulator just like new.

Save your time and energy and have these guys do it. You will get back a complete widow regulator just like new. The last thing you want to happen is replace just the motor and then have it put back in to have a wire fray sometime later and have to take it out all over again, get it all done while it is out.. :-)

  4. Here is what I was told by Avanti motors. On my 88 Avanti the center caps for the wire wheels were round, I think some might have been a hexagon shape in 89. No one is going to know if your car in 89 came with the round or hexagon shape caps. You can buy the center caps on ebay make sure the center caps come with the plastic retainer/locking piece on the back.

On the cap is a big A in the center of the cap use a drummel tool and grind the big A flat, does not take long as it is plastic. Once it is flat you can use the Avanti 1 3/4 inch medallion/logo Some of the bigger Studebaker Avanti parts places have these, If you cant find any I have 4 new ones that I can sell you.

these have an adhevisive on the back but would suggest also using some good glue like super glue to help make sure it sticks and stays on.

Even if you are so lucky to find what window regulator Avanti Motors used you would have to break the welds on the brackets they welded on so it would fit in the car, then reweld them on the window regulator you found.

  7. Way back in 1975 my first car was a 1961 Studebaker Lark, 1961 Larks were it for me. I had a convert, cruiser, 2dr,and a 4dr. I loved Studebakers so I knew what an Avanti was. I loved the look of the car but at the time an Avanti was out of my price range. As the years went on I got out of touch with Studebaker's untill about 1994 when I saw a Avanti convertible. WOW I had to have one. So I did my research and I wanted a 1988 Monte Carlo chassis convert. I like the clean look down the side of the Avanti. In 1987 the front side marker light was above the molding where as in 88 it was inside the molding and The reason I wanted a Monte Carlo chassis was there again about the clean look of the sides of the Avanti, the Caprice chassis converts the gas cap was moved to the side of the car(instead of on top with the Monte Carlo chassis) and also as small as the trunk space is, on the Monte Carlo chassis where the spare tire is underneath the trunk where the Caprice chassis since the gas tank had to be moved the spare tire took up most of the trunk space. So my sights were set on a 1988 Avanti convert I wanteda white Avanti with the blood red interior. so I googled 1988 Avanti and a car popped up that was being auctioned in Illinois, there was one picture. It was a convert , the description said it was white with bright red interior. This was too good to be true. The picture was from the front. I saw that it had the front bottom spoiler on it. I thought dang this was a Caprice chassis as they all came with the front, rear and side spoilers on the bottom. so my search was still on. About a month later in my weekly google search up popped this Avanti again as it did not sell in the auction, this time they had more pictures and there it was.... a picture of the car from the side showing no gas cap on the side. YAHOO...! I got in touch with the owner and bought it, It was everything I wanted and more. This car had the blacked out option package that came standard on the 1988 Anniversary special cars. This car has about every option that was available, a luggage rack(blacked out)... front and rear bottom spoiler, under dash map light, it had a car phone installed from the factory at one time but all that was left was the bracket on the side of the console when I got it and other options too many to list. Sadly after almost 10 years I'm going to sell the car in the next few months, I need to downsize, but what a GREAT life I have had with Studebakers and Avanti's. I would not change a thing :D

  8. Hi ... I have a 1988 Avanti convert and just went throught the same thing. A few years ago the pasenger rear wire frayed. I went through all the they came out of lebaron converts, AMC Renault Alliance etc etc and other cars, don't waste your time. Even if you are so lucky to find what Avanti Motors used you would have to break the welds on the brackets they welded on so it would fit in the car, then reweld them on the one you found. They replaced the motor with a newer one and replaced the cable with a thicker cable and guarantee it for 1 year. Call them for current pricing. I got a new motor, new cable and they paid shipping to me. They turned it around in a couple of days. Save your time and energy and have these guys do it. As soon as winter comes I will send them the other side to have it done.

  9. here is where I had my wheels balanced on the car it was by the old man who is the owner I think his son runs it now. Not sure what if any special tools or equipment that migh be needed. maybe just the knowledge. It made a huge difference on my car, anyway here is the place give them a call and ask them about the balancing. Talk to the old man or his son and they can give you the info so you can call your local tire shop and see if they can do it. transparent.png

  10. In regards to what Michael stated about keeping his wire wheels round. My wheels are in very good condition but I could never got them right, by balancing them the regular way. So I called some of the local tire shops untill I found someone who could balance them on the car. I had GREAT success with getting the wire wheels balanced ON THE CAR the old school way. This made a huge difference. It drives as good as new. :-)

  11. I have a 1988 Avanti convert. I realize that the caps are different but what I did was buy Appliance wire wheel caps and grind the plastic raised A in the center down then buy the black Avanti logo stickers that are still available and stick/glue them on and you cant tell the difference. I would not not doubt if this is what Avanti Motors did.. lol...... Look on ebay under Dayton wire wheel caps and see if any of those look the same.. If they do pop off the center logo/cap and replace with the Avanti logo sticker Dayton Wire Wheel Hex Nut Center Cap 6391

  12. The inside mirror on my 84 coupe fell off of the windshield and shattered on the shifter. I looked in the Stude Intl catalog. The Avanti mirror that they have is supposed to fit 63-85, but it is stainless steel, and it says to mount it on your existing post. I don't know if mine is original, but mine is black plastic with a non-removable stem. Is the original mirror black plastic or SS? Anyone know where to get one that looks like the original?

I'd also like to replace the outside mirrors with something close to original, if anone has ideas. Mine vibrate a lot, and the passenger one goes out of adjustment every time I close the door or hit a big bump.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul

Have you tryed going on ebay and put in... 84 monte carlo rear view mirror in the search box and see if any of those look to be the same as what you have....??

  13. There is a very nice 1988 Avanti Anniversary special with the supercharger attached and running (some of the 1988 Anniversary specials came with the supercharger and parts in a box that was put into the trunk) Very low miles.

Put this number in the seach box on ebay 260789851776

    This guy is negotiable

  14. Stude Intl has the 'A' Pillar Stainless covers. Nostalgic has the rest (not sure if the 'top' moulding is the same for a convertible}.

Thanks for the info. The reason I'm asking is I took my car into speedy auto glass to have my windshield replaced and they said they did want to work on it because Avanti motors used lots of silicone on the sides and behind the windshield molding. The installer told me when he got hired 5 yrs ago he had to sign a contract that stated any damage he did to a car like bend a piece of chrome trying to take it off he was responsible for half the damage and it would come right out of his check. So he was afraid to attempt trying to take the chrome off the car. So now I want a spare windhsield molding set handy so when I take it to another shop and the chrome does get bent I already have a replacement. My car(1988 convert) also came with the black-out option so even when I get the Windshield molding replacement set I will have to get it painted.. You would think that an experience glass shop would have the means or no-how on how to get the chrome off even if it is siliconed. anyone else ever have any problems with getting the windshield chrome off..??
