OK, guys you II experts..........does a '76 II still use the Studie Frame?
-
Actually they used it in rebuilding my dash...........I dropped off the entire dash/frame assembly to them and they did all the disassembly on that one. I just saw somewhere online that someone was parting out an AvantiII. I'll look around and see where that car was.
Found it, was already stripped of it's interior. I'll keep a lookout.

........I should be getting my Dash back from Just Dashes within the next week..........I'll let you know how it turned out.

Received the Dash this week, a little late, but a very nice job, very nice. The Glovebox door matches perfectly, the grain is consistent and matches the original very closely, color is very close, perhaps a shade lighter than the matching material from Phantom, depends on your lighting that your viewing in.

Those numbers don't make a lot of sense to me as most R3 engines had a BXXX or Ax designation. There were 4 EXxxxx numbers too! I would urge you to go to the Racing Studebakers website with this post and Alan or Dave Bloomberg might be able to help. There's a discussion there right now about Jet City Studebaker and Corbin Walters/Jim Pepper who designed and built that engine. The PK number was probably a number stamped by Jet City as it does not show on the R3/R4 registry, but interestingly there was a P83516 Block which must have been an early block as it was a 299ci motor.

Dave,
If you know or remember your Avanti VIN number, it was something like "63R2295" or in your case "63R4xxx". You can look here and see if it is registered by the current owner:
http://www.theavanti.com/register_63.htm
or here:

Good Luck!

Got the rear shocks, but need a source for the front 3-way adjustable shocks. Any leads??

Before you commit to anything, BeAware that I ordered a dash from SI in January of this year and as of 2 weeks ago there was NO WORD from the manufacturer as to when or IF they would be coming in!!!! Ed changed vendors after some complaints after the last bunch came in and the new guy has yet to deliver or even return Ed's phone calls.
I gave up and took my old dash to Just Dashes in Van Nuys, CA. Visited the shop, they have done them before and are doing mine.......BUT they are 2X the cost of SI's, which doesn't mean much if you can't get one.
Go to Just Dashes website and take a look. The units they did do and have on display in their shop look very good and the vinyl they use is a very very close match to original plus I just sent them a sample of the Fawn color patch from Phantom who is doing the rest of my interior.

Since I can't figure out how to place a link on this BB, you may have to just copy & paste this link. It is what I'm planning to do when my Avanti's exit the shop.

OK "Judges" Still awaiting your reply? Anybody here pass this question on to your favorite judge? I assume they read this site and are interested in "formalizing" the Avanti in the market. Documentation seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle in this marque.

Body is off being prepped and I need to know what color the underbody of the Avanti was or if it was undercoated(factory or dealership) what type(s) were used?
Also same above applies to the wheelwells!
Don't want to HAVE to scrape off the old undercoating if I don't have to.

Chuck,
Are these the fiberglass spings?
Tom
The fiberglass springs are from Flex-a-form of South Carolina. Spoke with George Smolen there and he still needs the form on his site filled out with the exact dimensions so he can properly form and layout the fiberglass springs. I'm waiting on the disassembly of my Avanti so I can pull the measurements for him.

Milt,
Don't know if you want to use original equipment only, but my Avanti ungoes the knife starting next week and I plan on purchasing these (http://flex-a-form.com). Maybe we can get a better deal going in as two orders OR if you can wait until I pull mine off you can get my current springs. I'm in So Cal so shipping might be a little cheaper. I can try to get measurements tomorrow on brackets.

I need to check the fitment of a stock Studebaker wheel on the new brake setup,
but I am pretty sure that it WILL NOT fit, due to the caliper being out farther to the
wheel. This brake setup would require upgrading to wheels that fit a 1994 to 2004
Mustang. This can be viewed as good OR bad depending on your perspective. I
see it as GOOD, since during my search for wheels for my Avanti (over 10 years)
I couldnt find anything that looked good. They just dont make nice wheels in the
stock offset, at least not that work well with the design of the Avanti. Two things
I need to check on .. one confirming that the stock wheel fits or doesnt fit, and then
two what steel wheels are available for a 1994-2004 Mustang. I am pretty sure
that the base Mustang used steel wheels, and they should be 15 inch. Technically
that would mean the stock Stude hub caps could be used. I will check with my
Mustang buddies and see.
Tom
Tom,
I'm running 15" Steel Wheels from a Lincoln Towncar(early '90's) 6.5"rim width and the offset is ~0.5" farther out. Will you be at the Griffth Park meeting the 18th? Would like to see your efforts up close.

Does anyone know of the correct Oil Pressure sending unit for a Circa '78(?) Avanti? The reason for the confusion is that my '63 Avanti was resurrected by the Avanti II people sometime in that era. The 350 Chevy engine has a '78 casting date. The interior was redone to that era standards including all engine gauges and the current sending unit and it's replacement are reading a constant 50psi regardless of engine RPM. The replacement unit supposedly was for a Corvette of that era with a full pressure gauge(not idiot lite).

I need information about the wiring harness. There are too many cut wires, loose wires, wires that start and end, etc. Does anyone have a wire diagram? I am willing to pay for a copy or to buy.
Have you found any harness maker yet? I just acquired a '63 Avanti that had been "upgraded" in the mid-eighties. Newer interior/dash & gauges. It also has many hanging wires and now has developed gauge issues, probably grounding related judging by the peformance and sequence of the failures. I will be contacting the two id'd vendors in the replies to your initial question. In addition I have contacted Ron Francis Wiring and am awaiting his reply. Posting the same question on some Studebaker forums I was told that a West Coast Studebaker may have wiring harness' available, have yet to find/contact them. I believe they are up in Washington State. Would you be interested in obtaining a complete new harness if I can find one/two?

Yep, that was me...........seems "Freddie" didn't bother to call me after he sold the cars to you, so when I showed up Friday @ 1PM as per my appointment, the cars were gone and Freddie was no where to be found. He gave me the numbers a few days earlier, I wanted to verify them first myself since the cars were to be sold without Title. I'm up in North County San Diego. If You'd like some assistance or on-site help, just let me know, I'd be happy to help.
