  1. Exactly the kind of information I was after. Thank you all. I now have a good idea of what to expect as I evaluate a vehicle to purchase.
  2. Anyone??? Over 70 views. Yet no input?
  3. This past week I test drove an Avanti I am interested in. The first thing I noticed was the high effort required during very low speed tight turns. It felt like almost zero assist in tight maneuvers. Like a manual steer car. Once you got rolling the car steered well. This cars past service history lists a p/s valve replacement. In searching the forum here, I see several discussions on p/s issues. I am trying to understand the nature of these cars. I have zero experience driving one until now. I have had GM cars of the 80's era, the same year as this Avanti. The p/s effort is minimal in the conditions described. Am I just accustomed to the GM level of assist? How much effort does a proper functioning Avanti p/s system require in low to no motion conditions?
  4. FWIW the Monkee's were musically quite good. I never paid them much mind. Other than the corny TV show. I picked up a greatest hit's CD at a thrift shop. Had loads of songs on it. Stuff you never heard on the radio. I was very surprised how good the rest of their music was. Was a well spent two bucks!

Thanks for the welcome and good luck wishes. I do plan to be patient with the purchase. One issue is that it seems nothing pops up close to home. Get's a bit costly when it takes an airplane ride to see the car. I've never bought a car sight unseen. Not going to start now.

Hello all I have lurked the forum to learn more about these cars. I fell in love with these cars over 50 years ago. I wanted one then as a kid fresh out of high school. I lived in Chicago then. I found a R2 in a newspaper ad an went to see it. I loved it. Only problem was I lacked most of the $4000 asking price. No matter how much I begged. Dad would not loan me the money. I ended up buying a turbocharged Corvair instead. I'm interested in an Avanti II with the Chevrolet engines and GM transmissions. I have a line on what appears to be a nice one. Being old school. I'm going in person next week to inspect and drive the car. I just can't buy/ship a car sight unseen. Look forward to future ownership and getting to know others who love these cars as well. I consider the cars a rolling art form. Loved it when I found out it was designed in forty days. Reminded me of another genius I admire. Frank Lloyd Wright and the story behind the design of his masterpiece. Falling Water. He drew it out in less than 3 hours. I can't afford a Wright home. Yet I am able to purchase a different design masterpiece. from other forward thinking brilliant men. At 70 years old it's now or never. Wish me luck.
