Hi, by Avanti has been delivered to Europe right at the beginning in 1963, to Milano, Italy. So, althoug being an American car, it was never in use in the US. Currently it has the speedometer in kilometer per hours (KPH) but the temperature gauge is in degree Fahrenheit. Does anybody know if this has been like this back then or have there also been temperature gauges with degree Celsius? Just curious as the mix of European and US metrics in my car is interesting and unusual.

Hi mfg and Hogthrough, thank you for your recommendations! - I will try both. Probably it's the tyres as you mentioned. I just checked and it has 215/70VR15 90W front and rear. They were on when I got the car and I had not really focused on the tyres, yet.

Hi everyone! I got my 1963 Avanti R2 now finally registered here in Austria and had my first drive on the road - a great feeling! What a great car. One thing I struggle with, however, is that the steering wheel is quite stiff. So getting out of my garage with reversing several times is really hard work because the steering wheel does hardly turn when I drive at such low speed as when driving out of the garage. On the road with normal speed it is fine, but when revesing it is a real hazzle. Does anyone have recommendations how to improve that? Or should I retrofit power steering? (as it was originally without power steering I would rather avoid that if possible) Every input appreciated!

I see, there are some Avantis over here in Europe - thank you for your pictures! In Austria, I am not sure if there are any other than mine but I will find out during next year 🙂

thank you! - I am really happy to have it. I definitively enjoy talking to people and tell them about the car, but first I need to learn more about the car myself so that I can do that in a well-founded manner. Avantis are quire rare in Europe. As far as I heard there are a few in Switzerland and also in the Netherlands but not in the other countries. I do not know how many there are in Austria but it might well be that mine is the first and only one in our country. So, I will try my best to come up to this honor.

Thanks, this is exactly the document I also received with the car. Mine is just without the handwriting that is seen on your copy, and I have it in on a thin green paper and the same also on a thin red paper. Where did you get that? kind regards, Stefan

Hi, just checked and you are right, engine number ist RS 2514. The sticker is at the side as you correctly identified. I will check if I can change that and put it symmetrically over the hole. Thanks also for the photo with the correct battery. I was not aware of that. LG Stefan

One more question concerning your remark 3 regarding the super charger. I see the hole there but no sticker. What sticker should be there to cover this hole?

yes, it seems the former owner did take care of it quite well, but he has not driven it that much - I was very much surprised how good the breaks are and how easy going the gear shift

yes, the rear view mirror looks great, however it is not very practical as you see more or less only the tops of the cars behind you 🙂

Hi, I have just brought my new Avanti home from its prior owner in Switzerland, last week: 1963 R2 color grey red seats and beige dash imported from the US to Switzerland by Binelli & Ehrsam AG, Zurich first registered in Milano, Italy, in 1967 by a Mr. Passoni VIN R-4641 Engine no. S-2514 Body no. 3609 Factory order no. 1416 I thought I could post some photos here as I am quite proud right now 🙂 If anybody knows anything about this car's prior history, please let me know. Hi, I cannot open my trunk at all. When I pull the latch it does not move at all - ist there any other way to open it than by using the latch? I guess something is broken inside ... Would be very happy for any hints or tipps
