I'm 90% convinced to replace my 112k mile 305 original engine in my 89. Probably going to put in an ATK 350ci 290 HP. They have the engine fully dressed or long block. Fully dressed includes carb that is NOT injected like my original so needing to remove the ECM. Opinions ! on removing ECM or just getting the long block and putting my Carb and distributer on new engine.. Thoughts appreciated. Its a winter project.

Coming home from a car show last week on a very hot day, I turned on the A/C. Worked fine and then I notice a 11 volt reading on dash volt meter. shut off A/c and it went back to 12 volts. Has always read 12 volts while normal operation. Noticed same with lights on. Did a reading on battery, with multi meter, not running, read 12.6 volts . Started car, read 14.2 on multimeter at idle. Gauge in car at 12 volts. Turned on lights and A/C while idling, gauge in car dropped to 11 volts, multimeter read 14.0. Appears charging system works fine, never had any starting issues, so probably bad gauge? If so I can ignore till I have a need to tear into dash which needs a few light bulbs. Opinions?? Dan

There is a devise called a Wheel Fitment and Simulator tool. It allows a tire shop to mount this in a tire of any size apply to your car and determine back spacing and off set. Your local tire shop should have one.

Before I break anything, on my 89 coupe, how to remove the carpeted A/C box on pass side. I recently had car reupholstered/ recarpeted and potential screw locations are not visible. Where located and how many?

Finally got old radio out. Antenna wire was hard wired into back of radio and broke off while forcefully removing. Hard wiring in gave no room to slide out. All else in back is standard plug in wiring harness. Strange that antenna had no plug. Now installation of new. Fortunately, wiring color codes are same on old Sony and new Sony I'm putting in.

I also cant get radio out of my 89. I've used the removal tools, allows me to move out about 4" and then binds up an stops. Its a Sony and on top has Avanti stickers, so I'm guessing original? Will it help to remove carpeted portion that covers Heater stuff to get into back to see what its held up on? The link to SDC site was of no help. Have a new one ready to slid in if I can get old out.

According to my operators manual, its #15 on the fuse panel. Third fuse up on far left of fuse box dedicated to turn signals. Doesn't specify a relay at all.. Also check the Flasher .

Sorry I'm too computer illiterate to post pics.. Web site is Studebaker-info.org for a Youtube video on how to replace on a 89 convertible. Google Avanti Window sweep Replacement and it will probably come up if you dont go to the website. The window sweeps come from a company called Precision Weatherstripping. Its called a beltline kit for 88 Monte Carlo 2 door. There are two variations, one with the outer stainless as shown in the You tube video , needed for convertible. I went with the non stainless ridge for my coupe. I did not need to match a stainless strip on my stationary rear quarter windows. Hope this helps

For what its worth, while doing some google search I found a site called Studebaker-info. It has a section dedicated to Avanti's. In pulling up a 1989 there was a reference to a UTube video for replacement of the window sweep rubber that I needed. Its from an 88 Mont Carlo. It works with some modifications but works beautifully. Way to long so needs to be cut down, but installs with drilling new holes.

Just had my 89 repainted. In the reassemble process my paint guy said that the back up lights and the front fender marker lights were epoxied in place. No brackets or screw holes, clips, etc. To mount , just epoxied in. He said pretty chezzy. Anybody have info on such? Was this Avanti's answer to keeping them in place vs some additional engineering . And if procedure is correct what type of epoxy should be used. They install from the backside.

The outer window horizontal rubber for my 89 is wasted. Cant find a source for 89. Will that same piece off an 83-85 be made to fit?

Anybody put 17-18" wheels on an 89 and was able to get proper back spacing to keep wheel and tire inside body line so no rubbing or bottoming out and hitting fender? Which wheel manufacturer?

An 04 listed on Hemmings with 137 miles. Anybody have any opinions on it? Would love to hear some thoughts. I'm interested in it but leery of 21 year old new car and dont know if price is fair. I bought a new 90 4 dr in 92, had no issues.
