  1. My records show the Bennett engine is B-23. It might now have ported and polished R2 cylinder heads. Also may have been the 224 cu. in. version used by Bob Burke. Engine B-37 appears to be the Cone engine. Supposedly, he found the engine in Detroit, MI. Cone installed a number of Bonneville parts (blower cooler, etc.). I make no representation that the above is 100% correct. It is the result of my research with the kind help of George and Nelson.
  2. They need to remove the ad from the Club magazine.
  3. I think I got the phone number off of the internet by searching the name and address.
  4. I bought a copy of the book in December 2023. It was a challenge. I sent the check and never received the book, so I called and spoke to his wife. He had been in the hospital, and she was not able to do anything about the book. She asked for more time and the months went by without any communication from them. I did not want to, but I had to get fairly firm with her to either send the book of give me my money back. She said their son might be able to send the book, and would take it to the post office, but still noting for a number of weeks. About the time I was giving up on the whole project, the book arrived. They did not cash my check for over six months. I do feel sorry for the problems of the elderly and I think they were facing some of them. I would call first and see if books are still available (if not the ad should be removed from the club magazine).
  5. Larry: Please check your PM (messages).
  6. Brad put the Autolites in my R3 motor, and they work fantastic. I have used NGK plugs for over 50 years, but have now used Autolites in three other cars and am impressed with them. Also, counterfeit NGK's are flooding the market and it seems lately, many NGK plugs are almost impossible to source. If people want to use Champions, that is fine, but in the 1970s and 1980s, at all the USAC races, there was always a Champion "rep" giving away plugs to all the racers. We finally figured out whey he was giving them away, nobody would actually spend money to buy them!

    R3 Numbers!

Anthony: Thank you for your comments. My efforts have been to update the existing R3/R4 engine lists. I worked with Nelson Bove and George Krem. They were most generous with their time and knowledge. However, so much more is to be learned and it seems you are another excellent source. I would appreciate your contacting me directly and I will be happy to share my work if you are willing to provide updates, comments and corrections. I will message you my email contact info. 10. Have any owners installed the heavier 7/8 or 1 inch front and 3/4 inch rear Swaybars offered by some of the Avanti parts vendors? If so, how do you like them and were there any problems in the installation on 1963-64 Avanti's.
