  1. Hi Dwight I’ve used Hanlon plating about 10 years ago, I think that the EPA has since chased them away, I can’t find anything about them any more on the internet if you go to Hanlonplating.com it looks like you get a site in Thailand. Strange i also posted this question on the Facebook Avanti owners page and got a bunch of replies, some include; Dallas Plating, Dallas Ga Custompolishchrome.com Waynes Plating, Fredericksburg Va Richard Lindsey, Ohio
  2. I’m in the middle of trying to restore/repaint my 71 Avanti. The center of my front bumper looks good but the ends could stand to be replated. We’re located about 50 miles north or Raleigh NC, there used to be a plater in Richmond Va but I think the EPA chased them away. I wonder if anyone has had their bumper ends plated, what I might expect to pay and if there are any recommendations of who I could send them to. If a service has already replated these parts they might be better able to tell me if they can tackle this project for me. thanks Bill Avanti 2 RQ-B 1635
  3. Thanks Ron, there’s lots of commercial places that will do the printing at a reasonable price, I don’t think I want to go into the printing business.😊 Bill
  4. I needed to replace the ventilator grill on the driver side of my 71 Avanti. The passenger side was still in good shape, so I was able to design a and build a new cover on my 3D printer. I posted the designs on the website “Thingiverse” under the title “Avanti vent cover”. There are designs for the left and right side. I made the vents out of PLA. The prints each took about 12 hours on my Ender 3 printer. The downloads are of course free. I hope that this might be of use to someone Bill

  6. AD. What you have looks like what must have been there. I’m sure the engine has been changed and there are no brackets for the compressor. I’ve tried looking up the number stamped on the block in front of the passenger side head, but there’s nothing on it. I measures the height of the water pump to see if it’s short or long and it looks like it’s a Corvette water pump about 5 7/8” It looks like you have an idler pulley, I assume to tension the belt. I do have two “v” grooves, one on the crank and the other on the water pump pulley. I measures the room under the hood. It’s 11” from the center of the water pump bolt to the underside of the hood, so it’s pretty tight. thanks for the pictures, they are going to help a lot. thanks for the replies Bill
  7. My next project on my 1971 Avanti ll RQ-B1635, is to try to reinstall the AC system. My guess is that the PO removed the compressor and condenser coil when he replaced the engine. I don’t have any idea what the engine is other than that it’s a small block Chevy. The block casting number is 3970010 which I guess is pretty common, but the stamped number is MK16800 I can’t find anywhere. I guess that’s another story. As far as I can tell the compressor was mounted near the center on the passenger side. The alternator was outside of the compressor and it’s tensioner was mounted to the compressor, that’s been modified. I’d like to mount a Sanden type compressor, I’ll have to replace the condenser coil, dryer and hoses. The evaporator coil and expansion valve seem to be ok, when the old compressor was removed they at least plugged the lines. I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on mounting alternatives, or brackets or anything else related to this project. I’ve been looking at the “Old Air” website, they have several different brackets listed. thanks for looking, working on these old cars is a lot easier with resources like this organization and your advice Bill
  8. Thanks everyone, I topped the level off with a pint or so of type F but I will get a picture of the pan gasket and see about dropping the pan and doing a fluid/filter change. The transmission shifts very well, and I have that nagging voice whispering in my ear “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” My next project is to replace the A/C system. thanks Bill
  9. Hi Gunslinger, and thanks for the reply the transmission is marked Warner Gear W.G. AS2-12D #1022 manufactured for Avanti Motor Corp. their #1700390 I’ll probably use the type “F” fluid I have most if not all of the paperwork that came with the car, there’s nothing about the transmission. thanks Bill
  10. I’m working on a recently acquired 1971 Avanti. I have a small transmission leak that I’ll probably have to address in the future, but for now, what type of ATF should I be adding? The manual indicates type A suffix A. Some web info indicates I can use Dextron 2 or 3. I also saw that older Borg-Werner transmissions used type F. I’m sure this has been answered hundreds of times, but I couldn’t find a thread. thanks, Bill
