The passenger side is done. It came out very nice, and window slides easily.
The old adhesive was terrible to remove. Combination of scraping, sanding, abrasive pad, (all the while being careful not to wreck the stainless-steel beads). Also, every chemical that I own.
By the way, none of the chemicals did much at all. 2 different adhesive removers didn't touch it.

Greg, were you ever able to get your window out?
On my Avanti, the top of the (rear) window track was pinched at the factory. I had to open the end of the track back to the original opening size. After I do everything to the mechanism, and put the window back in, I plan to pinch it semi closed again.
Driver side before.
Pass side after bending open.

Although I already had regular Velcro for the upcoming job, yesterday instead, I ordered the heavy-duty outdoor version! That tip was on the SDC Forum, in response to the same question I asked there.
As a side note, on the rest of the mechanism. I am just finishing up white lithium grease to all the wear spots, 3 new rollers, and using a hypodermic needle to get grease in all the pivots. Also, new motor gear. I can't believe all the pieces that the old one was in (plastic shards).
This is all being done on an '85, yours may have a different motor, depending on the year of the Avanti. But the rest of the mechanism seems to have remained the same over the years.

Never mind, I found something at the auto parts store that worked.

I am not sure what year they switched to using a CANBUS/festoon bulb for the map light (under the dash). Can someone please tell me what the bulb # is on this type of bulb? I already have the LED type, but I am interested in putting the CANBUS/festoon bulb in for troubleshooting a problem.
Thanks,

Does anyone know the number for the Map light under the dash? For the original style CANBUS/FESTOON bulb. I would guess it also fits some of the earlier years, in the middle '80's.
I need to order one, although I have the new LED ones. I want to try it in to help diagnose a funny problem I have with the doors, and the way they turn the light on and off. The switch for it also has a diode that I would like to rule out.

It is a 1985. But I still need some pics to give me a hint!

I am working on my car and need someone to take a couple of pics of their Convertible A pillar weather strip. I took mine off a very long time ago, and no longer have the original. I need to see how yours is shaped and attached. Also, I would like to know if you replaced it, what did you use?
How does the interior windshield trim attach? I know mine is probably different. But information on the later ones, with a pic would help.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this is correct or not. While working on my 1985 Avanti convertible, I found an old reference, from Brooksie where he said the roof rail weatherseal for 1987 - 1989 convertibles is carried from Steele Rubber. I haven't checked this out, as my '85 is a different in a lot of ways from the later ones.

Thanks for the advice.

I misspoke. The dual cone speakers are the rear ones.

I am working on the sound system on my 1985.
My two front Blaupunkt speakers (2-way) are pretty shot. Has anyone found a source for replacements? An internet search has not found anything for these. Perhaps someone has figured out a fairly easy replacement? Or had similar ones reconed?
The mounting for it is very specific.
I have figured out how to replace the back ones, by using NOS from the later Avanti.
Thanks for any advise.

Carpet lays as nice as I have ever seen. Did you glue all surfaces, or just the edges?
Since yours looks so good, got any tips as I do mine?

That was a nice thing you did for people!

I have never used it, so I don't know.

What are your pipes wrapped with? And how much do you think that it really helps with that nasty Avanti cabin heat problem, that we all deal with? Any problems with rust underneath it?

This is on my 1985 Convertible, so the carpeting will be some pieces from other years, and some I need to make myself.
Just general tips would be helpful. Still on the Studebaker chassis, so like other earlier Avanti's, but not like the '87 on up.

I am replacing the interior carpets with a new set. Could you please offer any tips?
Thanks,

If you use a higher power bulb, you can melt the lens. I know from experience.

Yes.
Chemicals I tried:
Brake Cleaner, Carb/Choke Cleaner, Eastwood Pre, Por15 Solvent, Acetone, Toluene, Xylol (Xylene), 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, Awesome, Por15 Marine Clean, 3M Specialty Adhesive Remover, 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, StepUp, and anything else I have in my garage.
Nothing really touches this left over adhesive very much. It is just very tenacious!
