That would be $25.00 per car sold in 1960 with a match by Studebaker making it $50.00 per car total paid to Filmways for the cost of producing the show.

Thanks for the interesting link Ken B.
The Avanti is currently in 2nd place behind the Corvette, but ahead of the Riviera.

A stock 400 in 1970 put out 350lbs of torque, by 1977 smog emission's had choked torque down to only 290lbs.
However, when properly "massaged" the 400 cu. engine could achieve well over 400lbs of torque. So, 430 ft-lbs is my guesstimate.

"Those subsequent Avantis, produced until 2006, were merely a shadow of the real deal, and likely aren't undervalued -- however low that value may be -- but the original is a true American classic."
Wow, what a slap in the face!
Agreed Warren, But you have to take into account of the uninformed subjective ignorance of the individual writer.
10 different writers would've come up with 10 different cars.
But articles such as this are what help to enlighten the general public to a 50 year old car from a marque that has been out of business for just as long.
So I guess that any publicity beats no publicity....

Neither do I. But your insurance agent or "friendly" state DMV might know.

2 "extra" door panels in the back? Egbert wanted a sedan & Lowey came up with 2 versions, a Fastback & a Notchback.

The Green one was a screen shot taken off of the web. You can also check out this Unicorn, "RR-3372" on Bob Johnstones site.http://www.studebaker-info.org/AVDB1/R3000/63R3372/63R3372.html for a more complete look of an Avanti with a vinyl top.

True. If built with the V-8 Lark Frame. The 6 Cyl Lark Frame was 14ga. The higher the # the thinner the metal.
Neumann & Altman were forced to start using the thinner fames late in their tenure when the V-8 NOS 13ga was depleted.

Through past experience, I've had aluminum wheels literally "weld" themselves to a steel hubs.
Road salt & general corrosion only ad to the problem. My guess would be False.

405hp.

Most likely true as the R3 was punched out to 304cu. & the R2 was a 289, More displacement = more carbon = more dirt.

Perhaps one of these would work.....http://www.flamingriver.com/index.php/products/c0002

Wow, too many coincidences with your post PLWindish! I used to live in Warrenville & am very familiar with Countryside Customs. They do quality work.
I also worked right around the corner from Mr. Beef in Mt. Prospect for about 20 years.
Am now currently working overseas in the Mid-East & only come home to Crestwood for 35 days a year.
3614 is currently in storage & awaiting the works to begin next March should all go according to plan. The reason for using Bump-N-Grind is that a good friend of mine will be doing the work & I know that he will do a top job. I've already thought about the manual & have been gathering tips from yourself & others on this site & appreciate them all.
Do you recall the cost of re-chroming the bumpers? Thanks

Being made available for other models in the Studebaker lineup?

Hi, New to the forum & having purchased RQB-3614 earlier this summer. While the car is nice (a 10 footer), I wanted to get a quote on a paint job & am also in the Chicagoland area.
Went to "Bump-N-Grind" in Homer Glen & was quoted a price of $16,400 for a complete paint job (no color change) this includes re-chroming the bumpers & fixing some stress cracks in the front fascia area, they will also float out the ripples that come naturally with fiberglass, pop out all of the glass, door handles, & paint the door jambs. covering it with a 2 stage paint job. Will have to supply all of my own gaskets & Avanti related materials. Any posts showing all parts needed when getting a complete paint job?
Thanks for the "heads up" about the putty, plwindish! Nice to learn something new everyday.
I realize that the $$ spent may never be returned. But walking out to my driveway & getting in and driving a car that is as rare as it is beautiful is its own "dividend".

So they renegotiated the original deal then?
