grant mills
Deciding to replace the transmission filter in my 1984 Avanti, I have discovered that while the transmission is a TH700-r4 (based on pan appearance), the filter inside appears to be the same as the one used in the TH200-4R (based on parts photos of the two filters where the 200 has the opening to the filter on the top, while the 400 has the opening on the bottom) It appears that the 200-4R was a common tranny for the years around my car. Was the 700-R4 an option for that year? The June 84 edition of R&T has a write up on the Avanti, but it says little about the transmission. Was Avanti doing a mix and match of internal transmission components as well as transmissions. I am not the origin al owner, but have had it for the last 30 years and knowing who the previous owners were, I do not believe that they would have done a tranny swap. grant mills RQB3958
