jlportugal Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 hi! I am restoring my 1981 Avanti II and I don't understand how the central locking system works. Does it only work from outside with the keys; is there a button on the dashboard to open/close the doors with the locking system. Thank you for your advice
kboyd Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 In the interior of my 1983 model Avanti, the electric door locks work from a toggle switch mounted on the bottom of the instrument panel, to the right of the steering column, about 4 cm to the left of the interior light that is above the center console. The switch is a center neutral SPDT momentary connection switch where electrical connectivity is made in either direction as long as you hold the toggle. When you release the toggle, the switch returns to the central neutral position.
kboyd Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 If you have not already discovered them, Bob Johnstones website has hand drawn circuit diagrams for the 1972 thru 1981 model Avanti. The diagrams look kind of crude on first inspection but I have found them to be accurate and they have helped me sort out some electrical problems on my 1983. The diagrams can be found at the following link: http://www.studebaker-info.org/tech/Diagrams/aec/aec.html
jlportugal Posted July 10, 2015 Author Report Posted July 10, 2015 Thank you for your help. I shall check tomorrow with the mechanic
