GATTACA

Barely distinguishable Avantis made cameo appearances in this 1997 "futuristic thriller". I guess the producers thought the Avanti looked like the future. It was a dumb movie with cigarette smoke obscuring anything of value. Gore Vidal had a major part which suggests its 'mix and match' quality. Rent it if you dare...

Gattaca leaves much to be desired, but it was nominated for an academy award for Jan Roelfs' art direction. From Wikipedia: Gattaca received a "fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes with 82% of the 55 critics cited giving the film a favorable review. Roger Ebert stated, "This is one of the smartest and most provocative of science fiction films, a thriller with ideas." James Berardinelli praised it for "energy and tautness" and its "thought-provoking script and thematic richness."

An interesting thing to note is that on the original VHS release the Avanti was only visible for a flash, but in the DVD version three or four scenes of several seconds have been restored. Image captures from the film are on TheAvanti website at: http://www.theavanti.net/gattaca.html . I am also the author of a 2 min video film on YouTube which has had almost 2,000 visits:

. The video shows dozens of scenes from the movie and features almost all the scenes with the Avanti including Vincent "charging" the car from a front bumper port!
