Hey Avantiacs... The Avanti was released to the Studebaker shareholders and to the New York Auto Show today......that is 50 years ago today. I was awaiting the arrival of my senior drivers license in New York that day. So....my friends and I rode our bicycles to the Merrick, Long Island dealership. I loved the car, but the price !! All I could say was,"$5,000 and the white wall tires are extra?!"
Every time I look at my '64 R2......I remember that day, 50 years ago today.....
Boy this sounds familiar, I was only 15 in 1963 and rode my bicycle to the Avanti Dealer . After about 4 hours there the salesman finally gave me a Brochure, which I still have today. "Only" 47 years later I bought my first Avanti, I think that salesman Died a long time ago.

Anyone have an Easy fix for stripped holes in fiberglass where inside door panel screws on ?
Thanks, Jerry
Thanks for the quick response. The metal plate sounds good.
I talked to a guy at a car show today who said he had good luck with Epoxy Putty. Have you ever tried it on fiberglass ?
Thanks, Jerry

I went to the Heacock site and was directed to the exact same online quote form used by AMIG and got an identical quote. I googled Heacock and came up with some negative reviews: http://local.yahoo.c...urance-lakeland.
Paul , Thanks for your reply, the nice thing about our club is the sharing of information.
Hopefully we can get input from other members to help you make the final decision. Jerry

I currently have my Avanti and Corvette insured with Hagerty but their rates seem pretty high. Can anyone recommend other companies that offer the same level of insurance and better rates? Thanks, Paul
Paul, Check into Heacock Classic collector car insurance.
They are very much involved with the Classic car community with sponsorship in vintage racing & all types of car shows. The owner is the founder of Vintage Motorsport magazine which is the journal of motor racing history.
Personally I feel more confident that the people at Heacock will better understand your needs since they are Involved in the car community . Its not just business but a lifestyle for them.
You can use my personal contact if you like. email aburnett@heacockclassic.com I have worked with Angela Burnett for 7 years and Highly recommend you get in touch with her.
Happy shopping,
Jerry Smith

While reading the latest Avanti magazine I noticed mention of a Wristwatch design by Raymond Loewy, in the article re printed from 1976 by Marshall Berges.
This got my attention since I collect Mechanical Wristwatches.
In searching Loewy patents and other articles I found mention of Wristwatch designs but no solid link to a manufacture or patent.
Does Anyone know where I can track one down ??
Driving my Avanti wearing a Loewy Wristwatch would be the ultimate experience for me !!
Thanks, Jerry

One year ago today I took delivery of my 1973 Avanti from club member Mark Halsband. I would like to THANK Mark for all of the time and Money he spent to make RQB1913 safe & dependable. The car is way more than I expected for a 38 year old vehicle.
This year has gone by so fast largely due to the continued ENJOYMENT the Avanti generates. It is used as a driver and generates more attention this way than any car show I have attended. Its those unexpected moments at the Barber shop, Grocery store and Church that bring back memories of the First time I saw an Avanti. This car is just as much "out of this world " now as it was in 1963. This year has been very rewarding thanks to all the club members and especially Jim Pearce for his continued inspiration. Now I think I will take the Avanti out for an ice cream.
Enjoy, Jerry Smith
