  1. You guys were incredibly helpful with my shock issues, so I might as well ask about these items too! I have the electronic trunk lock that has the button in the glovebox to unlock, and everything electronic works, the problem is with the actual locking assembly that mounts to the trunk itself, and houses the springs and claws that are supposed to snap shut to secure the trunk bar on the lid when you close it. I took it out and found the problem, there's a coil-spring near the bottom that is supposed to have a lip to catch at a certain spot and keep spring tension to make the claws snap shut on the lid latch. But the assembly is put together with philips-type screws, but they are angled so that a regular screwdriver would slip out if you tried to loosen or tighten them, which probably wouldn't help anyway because who knows how I would find the spring itself. But does anyone know how or where I can find a replacement or substitute locking mechanism? Any ideas, suggestions, or similar experiences?

Also, along with a lot of you guys, my drivers side window has frozen up, and I'm told it's just the motor itself, I know when I hit the switch I see a heavy dip in the ampometer or whatever it's called on the dash, so I can see it drawing current, but I just don't get any movement. Anyone have luck with aftermarket replacement motors or something? Thanks again!

    Tim.

  2. So I've replaced my shocks many, many times since I drive my Avanti a lot, and I live in a pretty rural area where the roads are just nothing but constant uphill, hard left, downhill, hard right, pothole, speed bump, cliff-like driveways, more potholes, etc. I go through brakes enough already, and am about to get my rear leaf springs replaced as well. I have done just about everything to my original 305 Chevy V-8 to make it faster aside from actually boring it out or balancing and blueprinting or polishing and porting, but long story short I think the rear shocks go out so fast because when I accelerate with a full gas tank, a fair amount of stereo equipment in the trunk, and 300+ horsepower just make the rear shocks do a ton of work. I've always bought the regular replacement shocks from Nostalgic, but I've noticed in the last 14 years I've gone from replacing once in almost 10 years to this latest batch lasting less than a year!!! I see lots of options for good aftermarket shocks for the front, but I see absolutely nothing for my 1981 rear shocks. Does anyone know if the ones I see that say 1986, '87, '88, some even up to 1991 would be the same as my 81's? You just never know what is actually in the thing until you have to replace something! I've got lists of all the crazy parts, years, models, etc that I've taken out or put back in over the years of all kinds of other parts of the car, but I'm really not happy about this rear shock situation. I definitely expected more than a couple thousand miles out of them to say the least. Anyway, if anyone can help me find shocks for it, OR tell me if they're the same shocks from a 1973 Challenger or something random like that so I can find them that way, please email me! DrDomovoi@aol.com, thanks!

  3. If you can't contact Nostalgic, you can get the brake hoses from Studebaker International or Jon Myers, and probably some other vendors. The proportioning valve, or more accurately, the distribution block, rarely gives problems so you may not actually need one. I wouldn't buy one from another make vehicle just because it looks the same...it may be very different internally and might have a different front/rear pressure balance. That can either lock up your front brakes too soon or not soon enough.

If you want an adjustable proportioning valve, you can get one through Summit Racing or Jegs, or a local speed shop. That can be installed and the front/rear pressure can be set up best for the car.

Okay I'll try those suppliers you mentioned. The Dist. Block is pouring brake fluid so I'm pretty sure it needs replacing. I saw those aftermarket ones at Summit & etc. but I'm trying to find a stock part so I don't have to make new brake lines. Thanks!

  4. So I have an '81 Avanti II and I need to replace the prop valve and the 2 front rubber brake hoses. I can't get ahold of Nostalgic so I'm trying to figure out what parts they really are. I found a mopar unit for the 72 Charger & several other models that LOOKS the same but I'd like to find out before I drop $100 on it. Same thing with the hoses they seem to be from a similar vehicle as in 60's/70's plymouth/dodge stuff. Any help guys?
