True...

The idea of any forum is to draw more readers and participants.
This trivia quiz is a good way of doing that.
Ed should be commended for taking the time and effort to do it.
Having said that....
It is my opinion..... (and you know that opinions are like @$$#0!es, all you ever get out of them is....)
* Trivia questions should me metered out and not gushed out.
One question a day would be fine, and it would pull people back every day..
* Let the question 'age' for a day to give respondents time to read it before the 'correct' answer is revealed.
(Not everyone lives at their keyboard waiting for the 'reply notice' to kick out)
* Put the link address in every 'reminder' that gets posted on the other forum(s)..
Not everybody has everything AOAI tattoo'd to their brain....
* Be patient when nobody puts in an answer in 4 hours......
A lot of people work and can only look at any forum late in the evening, or even only on weekends.
Piddly, I knw... But it would make this better... -
False.
Gasoline can permeate and get into the glass cloth.
Diesel doesn't bother fiberglass, but gasoline, and especially gasoline with ethanol can cause problems. -
I say false.
Most heater hose block heaters pump through the heater core to help defrost the windshield and warm up the interior quickly. -
Re-entry curves.... Parabolic arcs.

Thank you Ernest...
I have since found out my Avanti was a 1989 build that was licensed and sold in 1990.
My rubber/plastic strips to not have any chrome inserts in them.
Do you have any pic's of yours that you might e-mail to me?
Thanks ahead of time. I do appreciate it.

You can get them from Steele Rubber. They are Mote Carlo 88 and will have to be cut to fit. They can be replaced with some difficulty with the window in and down. Easier to replace if you drop the window from the lift. I have replaced them on 89 coupes and covertible. I think the Steele price was about $119.00 for the set with the crome insert.

Question for group:
1990 Avanti convertible.
I need to replace the molded (rubber/plastic?) outer side weather seals on this convertible.
Mine are 'hard' and I can break the flexible part with my index finger.
There are 4 pieces, two long ones for the doors, and 2 short ones for the quarter windows.
They 'look' like they were cut to fit (I can feel a rough edge at the one end).
Does anyone have a source for these, or an interchange?
(so I can go spend money with impunity!)
Thanks ahead of time.

Thank you for the pic Ernie. That is exactly what I needed to confirm my confusion <lol>
Yessir, that's what I have.
I have decided to add a small adjustable 'door popper' to just lift the lid enough to allow you to go back and lift the trunk lid.
There's a spot to install it where it will not be noticable.
Thank you all for your help.
Jeff
Here's some pictures of a NOS latch I bought to adapt to the 64. Looks like you have all the pieces.

I don't know if anything is missing, or if my latch has been modified.
After doing some 'net searching, it looks like the trunk latch on this '90 Avanti is really a Monte Carlo hood latch turned upside down.
The extra holes I am looking at were used for either the finger pull, or the hood release cable.
It all works fine, but the trunk lid doesn't move up at all when the latch release button is pushed.
It clicks fine.
Am thinking of adding a simple 'door popper' to push the trunk open just enough to grip it and lift the trunk lid.
The lid stays open just fine now, with the new gas struts put in.
Getting there...slow but sure.
Your replies are all aprreciated...Thanks!
Jeff
Jeff,
Will look at the one in my 88. to see whats missing.. .

Thanks, Bob...
I took the cover off, and looked deeper.
(Found the 'emergency' open aircraft cable pull under the rear body, and pulled the backup light out of it's socket testing it <lol>)
Spent a few hours surfing the web looking for a latch, and nothing I saw matched the style of latch on there.
I'll keep my eyes open. Right now it's a 2 person job to open the trunk lid...
Jeff
Jeff,
Hard to tell from the picture, might be easier if the cover was removed, but it looks a lot like Camaro, etc from the era. The spring loaded lever pivot mounts to the big hole and levers up on the "U" shape catch. I'd start there as they probably sourced about everything from the GM, the source of your cars frame and drive train.

1990 Avanti covertible
Trunk latch 'should' have a little 'popper' lever and spring to pop the trunk up so you can lift it.
I put new gas struts on it, but it just sets there with the latch activating, but the trunk won't raise up at all to unlatch the latch.
Thanks ahead of time....

Texaco is having an Internet car show that runs through the end of the month.
Several Studebakers have entered, and some are doing quite well...
(one is third in the contest as of 9/21)...
It would be great to get out the vote for some Studebaker's and Avanti's!

I know of several Avanti's that had the rear window come out at speed, and they all had the windows up.
The additional two window clips solved that.
Jeff
The rear window popping out was an early production problem, and it wassupposedly ONLY when the windows were down at speeds over 100 mph.
An easy solution is to leave the windows up when going over 100 mph.

False
The number ( Avanti #9 and the #90 Avanti were two different cars ).
That #90 Avanti had over a dozen paint schemes on it over the years, one of which was the Torco paint scheme with #90 in the window..
The Burke Avanti was later sold to David Parris in North Carolina.
It is getting updated (with 259 Stude power) to continue land speed racing.
I know where the Burke Avanti is currently residing.
