  1. I believe the drivers side window switch may be bad on my 1990. The switches are in the center console. I'm afraid of pulling the wood to hard as it may break. Seems to be under the leather trim all around except at dashboard area at ash tray, there it is under the other wood trim. Any ideas how to get at the switch? When I push the switch, the volt meter does not move. It does move when activating the other windows. The good news is the window is up but not operational. (side note; you guys that also had the leak problems, did you get them fixed using the method that I found?)

  2. ernier, My driver window switch 1990 seems to not work. window is up. Looking at volt meter, it moves when other three window switches are touched but not the drivers side. I see a photo of a switch on your post oct 2010. Looks like you somehow pulled the switch out of the wood console. How did you do that? I'm afraid to try and remove wood as it seems to be really stuck with the leather all around it. Do you still have your car/

    Thanks,

  3. I have a 1955 buick convertible and have owned convertibles in my younger days, all with the "plastic" window with zippers. I almost always unzip when putting the top down. Actually always with the '55. When younger with the '51 then the '60 I sometimes put the top down with the window zipped.

Reason for unzipping is two fold: keeps from creasing but 2) I now unzip and put a terrycloth towel under and over the window to prevent it from getting scratched when the top rubs on it when down. Have had the new top for 10 years now and no scratches, nice and clear. Of course, if it is to unhandy, then go ahead and leave it zipped as the canvas may not be as rough as the vinyl top I have.

  4. Jim, welcome to the 1990 club. I own #85. Sold Silver anniversary #3 over a year ago but kept the 1990.

Avanti magazine issue #165 is the last time I saw 1990 wood for sale page 73. see sat65 reply.

Says three sets left but I think one was sold. May still have two left. Good Luck and be careful with folks taking pictures while they pass you or tailgate trying to see what kind of car that is.

  5. Give Dan Booth a call at Nostalgic Motors (800-AVANTI-1)...he seems to have the best inventory of post-Altman cars. If he's unable to help, you might have to remove the switch and compare it to pictures on electrical switch suppliers online or the catalog at a NAPA store.

Thanks Gunslinger, I talked to Dan but they have not had any success finding them. He suggested continue to just use the one that works. The switch is out of the car so we will go ahead with pictures, etc.

  6. Do the belts you have now have a brand name and number on them? If so, you can either find that brand or do a cross-reference. You can also measure the belt's length and width across the top and find new belts according to that. You also have to make sure the angle of the "V" is the same as well. If you have manufacturer and part numbers still readable on the current belts a reference guide should give you all the measurements you need.

There's a number of vendors for the AOAI and the SDC who offer blower rebuilding services. Depending on what the blower actually needs a rebuild kit may not have all the parts you need. While comparatively simple, that Paxton can be quite touchy when being rebuilt. The planar balls alone require perfect matching to operate properly.

Thanks for the response, I should log in more often. The belts (3) are completely destroyed. I did contact Jon Myer and he can rebuild an says he also has belts. I'm going to measure by using a string or wire on the pulley before removing the blower just to make sure of the length.

  7. In my infinite wisdom, I neglected to check the supercharger oil level after a two month layup and went for a "spin". Yes, the supercharger locked and burned the belts, (that's how I knew something was wrong) Anyone know where to find the proper belts as well as repair the supercharger? I found what is described as a "complete rebuild kit" from SuperchargersOnline.com for the paxton SN 60 which I believe is in my car, stamped on the housing is SN 60 V 461 51 1388. I did drive it back home after the belts broke and it seems to run just fine, but I would like to have the car complete with working supercharger.

    Thanks,

    Ron

  8. My dad owns an 88 coupe and we are looking to get new rims. We both like the looks of the 1990 4-door rims pictured on theavanti.com site. I thought I saw something similar on a '90 era Chevy (which makes sense). Does anyone know where I might find the rims pictured?

    Thanks

I have a 1990 with those wheels. They are EPIC wheels but I don't know where to get them.

  9. I bought a universal cover at costco for my 1988 LSC silver anniversary car. size extra large I went back a month later to buy another as the one I was using for my 1990 is not as nice but, alas, they are all gone.

    Good Luck,

  10. I have been looking for the air filter canister that goes in the front fender air cleaner assembly of my 1988 LSC silver anniversary edition. It is the one with the paxton supercharger. the filter is about 5 3/4 long not including the gasket ring which seems to be about 3/8" has a 6 7/8 dia X about 4 1/4 ID with one end closed. the one in the car is steel mesh with the filter material inside. Can any one can help? I have looked at the K&N catalog and many others on line with no luck. Thanks,

    Ron

  11. I'd also like to see the pictures. I went there in april and saw two 4 door "shells". Jim said he owned a 4 door

but it was not for sale. Sad to see everything close. I would like to know where the inventory went.

Had some new ones in stock when I was there and told more to come in May. Also had some old ones not yet sold.
