  1. Actually,

There were (at the peak with 5 local Avantis that had just shown up and were neither registered or judged...heck, there were 33 registered to be judged, alone) 52 Avantis (verified by the photos taken from the hotel rooftop and 2 walking counts on the ground)!!

AFAIK, this is the most at a non-SDC dual meet since the Orlando meet (51) in '04.

The 5 all black cars mentioned incl. the 5 speed are 20th anniversary special editions and, with only 25 produced, this represented 20% of total production in one place at one time...quite a feat!

Also, to have 7 of the new-gen ('00-'07's including the ONLY Cancun produced coupe and the only 6 cyl convert. in the country) and (2) 4 doors in one place is pretty amazing too!

For those who so generously donated their time, talent, and treasure to make this event a success I offer a HUGE THANK YOU and pat on the back for a job well done!!!

I will attempt to post a rooftop pic or 2 shortly,

    Tom Gorr

    Meet Chairman

  2. LAST MINUTE UPDATE...AGAIN!!!

THE LAST MINUTE RUSH FOR ROOMS CAUSED AN ERROR IN THE HOTEL'S COMPUTER SYSTEM AND I WAS CONTACTED BY SEVERAL MEMBERS WHO TRIED TO BOOK TODAY ONLY TO BE TOLD OUR "SPECIAL" PRICE WAS $114 / NIGHT!!!

I CONTACTED THE HOTEL, SPOKE TO KAREN WHO CORRECTED THE ERROR AND EXTENDED OUR DEADLINE FOR THE CORRECT $89 / NIGHT RATE TO MIDNIGHT, FRIDAY JULY 17, 2009 TO MAKE UP FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!!!

    WE GOT A BONUS!

SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER AND SORRY FOR ANY TROUBLE IN GETTING YOUR ROOMS BOOKED!

    TOM GORR

    2009 MEET CHAIRMAN

  3. For those of you planning to attend (or still thinking about it! :<), a reminder to secure your rooms at the meet hotel before Wed. July 15th.

The price for rooms goes from a teriffic $89 per night (plus tax) to a good $109 per night (also plus tax)! This is for a full-service Hilton Hotel with plenty of luxuries!! We will release another block of rooms tomorrow (Monday) if necessary so don't delay...register today! The hotel can be reached at 800.552.2599 and they ask that you please mention the AOAI/CAOA to get the special rate! We are seeing a rush of room registrations these past few days and may well have used up the last block of rooms (I will not know until Monday)requiring us to release another block (in other words, if they say they are out of rooms at the special rate, please be patient and try back later in the day)! Thank you to all of you that have already registered (you will have a great time) and for the rest of you...we'd love to see you too!

Even the BBQ is turning into quite the classy event with our gracious hosts the Edfors insisting on china and silverware (no paper / plastic please) for the event! They are absolutely wonderful people with a beautiful home and grounds designed for entertaining (which they frequently do)so a good time will be had by all who attend!

    See you in September,

    Tom Gorr '09 Meet Cairman

  4. Nick,

If they were painted and not chromed when you got them they are, most likely off of a Gremlin or Hornet (or similar "sporty" AMC) from the '75-'80 range. The housing shape and stem are identical to my '82's chrome mirrors (AMC sourced as well) with the identifier(s) being the shape of the housing, specifically the "flare" at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions that give the mirror glass its distinct shape and the "flute" in the narrow edge of the stem.

I have a copy of "The Last Independant" book about the history of AMC and several Gremlin / Hornet / Spirit trim packages pictured have these painted mirrors (Levis Gremlin anyone?). IIRC, AMC had multiple base / stem angles for various models (Ambassador, Matador, Gremlin, all different).

    Hope it helps!

Does anybody have parts knowledge of 70's AMC or Ranchero parts. I have some custom outside mirrors on my 63 Avanti that I got at the local Pick a Part way back when. The pass side one is broken and I need to replace it but do not remebre what I got it from.

    THANKS NICK

  5. No, they don't depreciate that much, those that were listed were purchased for far less than sticker when Avanti Motors closed up shop (look on the Yahoo groups site where you will find the factory fire sale price sheets posted)! The red convertible for example was an Ebay listing from '07 and, if you look it up you will find the last sale price. Most went for 38-48K at that time and the lack of support (for the body and many interior parts) has made them a tougher purchase decision than the older models with plenty of vendor support. Keep in mind that the '05 body and interior were 1 year only designs and the '06 & '07s are unique as well sharing little, if anything, with even the '00-'04s! The current economic climate (worldwide) is, of course, not helping either as the funds for such purchases are drying up (at least in the case of the home equity loan spenders who now have LOTS of toys for sale) as well!

    Sad but true!

Let's hope that the textbook definition of phoenix (Avanti Motors) can pull off a rebirth some day!

  6. Grumpy old man!! :lol::D

Sometimes it's not good to be too fast!!

Maybe if you get a Mac....

    :(

Is there anyway to speed up our Avanti Forum?

I am using Windows XP with all the latest updates on a DSL line. It takes 15 to 30 seconds to change screens!

I am a member of two other auto forums and the navigation between screens is immediate.

Attached is a Poll on this matter. Am I the only one with this problem?

  7. Hi everyone!

I am pleased to report that, to-date, I have received almost 200 completed ballots for the 2007/08 AOAI Board election!!

To those who have already voted, THANK YOU!

To those who have yet to do so...take a minute and vote today!

The AOAI is truly moving "Avanti" and the members currently running will ALL bring additional momentum!

We are currently runnung at a 10% voter turnout, let's beat the national election average of less than 25%!

    YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

  8. Pic of Avanti of Atlanta taken June 22, 2007 by Ginny Neeley attached

I stopped at the closed Avanti showroom in Morrow, GA (Atlanta suburb) this month. The building is vacant and NOT boarded-up. There are magazines on the desk in one of the offices and there is a Brand-X car in the garage repair area.

The building is being maintained by someone.

    As attachment wouldn't work....
