  1. If you want to see all the nice cars in the World of Speed Museum go to YouTube show "World of Speed Museum (1/2018) the video is 11:43 minutes long, my Avanti is at the 4:32 minute spot on the video, it is a very nice well done museum and great people working there, enjoy, take care, Dave

  2. Yes I know you were referring to the Trivia section and I would like for these items to be next to the car, but they are worried the public may steal some of the items, its a shame today we have to worry about things like that, but in the future I hope they can find a way to show the history right next to the car, thanks Gary for your interest, Dave Bloomberg

  3. They were afraid to place the timing tags and my records by the car in the Land Speed section because unfortunately some things on display are stolen, but I hope they can make a display cabinet near the car so the public can see more history of the car, this museum has a Land Speed section with Mickey Thompson 4 Poniac engine streamliner near my car and they have Indy cars, NASCARs, drag cars and others on display, out of the 200 cars there my Studebaker Avanti is the only Studebaker car in the museum and its getting a lot of attention by the public, so I'm glad its there, take care, Dave

  4. Hi fellow racers, some of you may know that I donated my 1963 Avanti that I raced for 23 years at Bonneville, El Mirage and Muroc Dry Lakes and still holds records there, in May of 2017 I donated my Avanti to the Studebaker National Foundation and they have put the car on display at the "World of Speed Museum" at Wilsonville, Oregon (near Portland, OR.) for a 2 years period but now the Foundation and me love the car there so it may stay there forever, recently on YouTube the museum shows my 50 some racing tags and my 3 record certificates, so if you wish to see it go to YouTube "Avanti Kid's Bonneville Records-Inside the Archive S1:E3" take care Dave biggrin2.gif

  5. Hi Jeff, I have a coil that I took off my 1963 Avanti when I started racing it at Bonneville, I checked it but don't see any part numbers one it, but if your interested I can send it to you for $25 plus shipping, but if its not the correct one then just send me a check for shipping cost, I leave for vacation Tuesday June 12th and will be back on June 19th, any questions you can email me at avantikid@earthlink,net  Dave Bloomberg (Avanti Kid racing),

  6. Since I posted above we made some plan changes, I gave the Studebaker National Foundation my pink slip so they own it and they arranged for Mike and me to deliver my Avanti to the "World of Speed" museum just south of Portland, Oregon, so on May 3rd we went 1000 miles in 18 hours and delivered it there, it will be there for the next 2 years, then they will move it to another car museum in the USA. I did get my car legally appraised for  income tax deduction for $106,333.00 which I was very happy about, see photo of  me delivering car at museum.

  7. That is strange, Ron Hall is one of my hero's in racing at Bonneville with his Avanti, I have raced there at Bonneville for 23 years with my 1963 Avanti and I raced it with Ron Hall's race number on my car which is 1963 and below it my decal says "In Memory of Ron Hall" also his family knows I raced with his number and years ago after he passed they came to Bonneville and saw  my Avanti with his number, it was a special time meeting them and the family got to see the salt that Ron raced on. Ron and I used to talk on the phone for many hours, he helped me with ideas when I first started racing in 1993. so there are 2 Avanti's with the same race number, kind of special and rare. My last race with my Avanti was last November at El MIrage Dry Lake in Southern California desert, later I donated my Avanti to the Studebaker National Foundation and they arranged for it to be on display at "Word of Speed" museum just south of Portland, Oregon, it will be there for the next 2 years, then the foundation will move it to another car museum. so if your in that area stop by and see my race car. I got my car appraised so I can take some $ off my income tax, here is a photo of my car being delivered by me at their museum.

  8. Hi Denny, I plan on contacting the Studebaker National Museum soon so they know what I planning on doing with my Avanti, I hope they can work with the Studebaker National Foundation for my cars placement, also, my co-driver and I plan on attending the Intentional car show so the public can see it and even hear it run in racing form,  so I would appreciate any suggestions on this process, I have a appraiser coming over to my home in two weeks to place a value on it for IRS deduction. I'm excited to find a good home for the car that I love so much and had such wonderful experiences over the 53 years I have owned it, I'm looking forward to meeting people at the May 3 thru 6th event, thanks Dave

  9. Thank you everyone for your remarks, my car as you mentioned will be in the exact condition of when I raced it last in November at El Mirage Dry Lake, I do hope the museum will  allow the public to sit in the car to really enjoy the concept of racing it at Bonneville, also, with the hood & trunk open you can see all the signatures of so many people who made my racing successful and fun, also notice the mechanical fuel injection system made my Airflow Performance, this system is by far the best mechanical fuel injection made for racing, it's used on airplanes that race at Reno, and off shore race boats and three of us use this $5000 system at Bonneville. The engine is special too to make it strong enough for over 800 hp with the single large turbo,

  10. Hi everyone, my latest status is I have contacted the Studebaker National Foundation and indicated to them that I want to donate my racing Avanti to their organization, they are excited to receive it, The plan is to give them the Pink Slip for ownership, then they will loan it to the Studebaker National Museum and to other museum across the USA. I have contacted a company that can appraise the value of my car for a IRS deduction, they will be here to see the car in 2 week. Also, my co-driver Mike Benbenick and I are taking my Avanti to the Studebaker International car show on May 3 thru 6th, then hopefully have the SNF put the car in the SNM for display. I feel this will be a fitting place for my car that I bought new in 1963 for the public to see and the SNF has a policy to never sell my car. So Mike and I are looking forward to the car show and hope to see some of our friends there and meet new ones, It really has been a very special ride for 23 years of racing, take care and enjoy 2017, Dave Bloomberg "Avanti Kid Racing"

  12. Hi everyone, here is my latest status on my racing career,

First of all I want to thank all the friends who came to see me race on that Saturday Nov. 12th, it was great visit and they got to see my procedure for racing my car at El Mirage Dry Lake, the weather was great, in the 70's and no wind, but what we did not know that when we set the idle mixture on the mechanical fuel injection system we set it at 12.8 ratio on the Wide Band O2 system, but because I use very cold spark plugs they got fouled at idle which on that Saturday would not let us start the engine, later on Saturday we installed new plugs and leaned out the idle mixture to 13.8 and the engine showed 1000 degrees temp at idle on both sides of the engine and it was happy and ran very good with no fouling of plug, so we got in line, but we got half way to the starting line when the race officials stopped the race, it was torn up to bad to race, so they moved the course over to the backup course for Sundays race, so early Sunday morning we got in line and got to the starting line around 10:30am, I was suited up with race suit, HANS device, helmet, wrist straps, 5 point harness, then I notice the removable steering wheels three main Allen bolts were loose, I told my crew chief, he got some Allen wrenches and tiegthed them, problem solved, then they pushed me off up to 40 mph, then I took off in 1st to 5,500 rpm, then in 2nd to 6800rpm with 5 lbs boost, then in 3rd to 6800 rpm with 13 lbls boost, then 4th to 5600 rpm with 15 lbs boost (we wanted 25 lbs boost) and at the finish line at only 153 mph because of low boost tune, but it was a fun ride and good traction, chute worked great, it his hard at -1.2 Gs (5000 lb force) on rear of car, engine water temp was only 180 degrees, so they towed me back to our pit area and got our timing slip, then found out the 3rd round was being called to race, so we packed the chute again and got in line to race again, but now I moved the waste gate controller to full max for more boost and we gave the engine more fuel, we got 4 cars from the starting line and I'm all suited up inside the car to race when I notice some race officials all gathered together talking, then the president of SCTA Bill came to my car and said, "Dave the track is really toure up at the 3/4 mile to the finish line and some cars have almost spun out and even some motorcyles almost went down, so I suggest you think about not racing under these conditions," so I thought about it for a few minutes and told him, "I'm not going to race" so we pushed off the course back to our pit area, and called it a day to head home, You may wonder why I made that decision not to race, Where is why, I was thinking about the safety for me and my car, I was thinking about what my wife Barb would want me to do, I was also thinking about Ted Harbit and his Chicken Hawk car that he would love to have intact for the Studebaker Musuem, so considering all that, I did not make that last race of my 23 year career of Land Speed racing at Bonneville or El Mirage. So my plan is not to sell my car but see about putting my car in the Studebaker Musuem for the public to be able to see and let them have all my record cerificates and tropys and timing tags for the car history, I hoping to get the car there in May or so if there is any Studebaker/Avanti conferences going on at that time, then while being there, later we can go to Ohio and see our daughter and grandchildren and great-granddaughter in Newark, OH. So after making all my goals, (Bonneville 200 mph Club and 3 records) its time to quit racing at age 77 and still needing another heart operation (my areto pig valve is 13 yeas old) that my heart doctor is keeping an eye on, so I happy with the decision and really look forward to other racers to continue racing at Bonneville and El Mirage, take care everyone and thank you so much for your support and interest these many years, Dave Bloomberg "Avanti Kid Racing"

  13. Here is a little more info on moving the car, when I was driving it I can not see behind me, so when Vinny was trying to guide me I could not see him, so I was backing into the driveway and garage blind, but I new that if I got it close to being in the correct position on the driveway I could attach my electric winch in the garage and pull it in correctly with the winch, so that was how we turned the car around, next will drain oil and install new oil and filter, it was a good day and nice weather for the engine run. Also want to that Lew for fixing the video so its easier to see on this web site. Take care, Dave

  14. Last Saturday we shoot a video of driving Avanti out of garage and turning it around and back into garage. Now I can drain engine oil and install new oil and filter, Engine was just over-hauled and has a few driveway runs on engine. If you want to see video go to U-Tube and do a "Search" for "Avanti Kid engine run 3/29/14" I plan on showing car this May 25th at the La Palma Park car show in Orange County and other local car shows. Enjoy the sound of the 800 hp turbo Studebaker engine. Top speed for car so far at Bonneville is 216 mph at the 4 mile point of the 5 mile salt course, This was done with the rev. limiter set at a low RPM of only 6300 rpm, in the past the engine as been to 7200 rpm with 20 lbs boost. Car is race ready for SCTA rules for 2014, which included removing all tempered glass windows and installing the required Lexan windows for any cars that the record is over 200 mph. If you every dreamed of racing at Bonneville at over 200 mph, this car is still for sale for $45K, if someone buys car, my race team will go to Bonneville with you and help you tune car and do the rookie runs and help with the rules at Bonneville, take care, Dave

  16. After 48 years I'm selling my 1963 Avanti, after 18 years of racing at Bonneville, Muroc & El Mirage (I hold records)I'm retiring from Land Speed racing, I will race car at Speed Week in August 13 and go for another world record at Bonneville in the D/CBGC (existing record of 209.3mph) If interested call me at (661) 251-6969 or e-mail "avantikid@earthlink.net" Dave Bloomberg

  17. Very interesting question on the Avanti aerodynamics and it's rear window. I have some experience on both, first the Avanti is very good in aerodynamics except for the front window that is horrible, as I lower the front of the car to put it on a California Dago rake the window gets steeper making its aerodynamics worse. I need the front low and rear higher for better control above 150 mph. Even at 201 mph the cars is stable with this rake and the 650 lbs of balast I added to the car for better traction. So, as result the car is very good except for the front windshied. However I believe the 53/54 Studebaker coupes are far better in aerodynamics than the Avanti. As far as the rear windshield coming out at speed, we have experience of that when Jim Lange drove my Avanti at Bonneville and was doing about 175 mph when the rear window was sucked up into the air about 50 ft and broke into little pieces. We had to shut down racing on the salt for one hour while everyone was picking up glass! I had to buy a lot of beer for the racing officals that day, ha-ha. This window came out even with small tabs added to help support the window. Now afte that experience we made our own window out of Lexan and bolted it in place, no more problems. The main reason for the window blowing out with windows up and rear vents open, is the air on top of the window at high speed causes a huge suction. Now with the Lexan bolted in the car roof is even stronger.

Take care, Dave Bloomberg "Avanti kid Racing"
