enigma

Some of the terminology in this discussion confuses me. In my case I need to adjust my passenger side door back by about 3/16 inch. do I do this by shiming the two hinges about 3/16 inch at the door frame, or do I remove the inside of the door and adjust the hinges where they attach on the door by loosening them and sliding them the needed 3/16 inch?
