[Verifying stall on a torque converter]

I purchased a Avanti torque converter from a craigslist ad, and I don't see "HR" or any other codes for identification.

I also have a different Avanti torque converter that I sent out for repair, and the one that came back has the wrong two letter code. (not "HR"). I don't like the way this one performs and suspect it has the wrong stall setting.

Is there any way to test the stall setting or is a testing service available?

I had an ignition key made by local locksmith for my 53 champion. Call around, hopefully you'll find someone local. There's also a fellow on the Studebaker forum that has some original keys, he might be able to help. He's active on the forum and should reply to your post within a few days.

How can you tell if an automatic transmission is from an Avanti?

Is there a casting number of serial number on the plate that can be used?
