I've had this Avanti for several years. The previous owner did a body off paint job and a cleaning and freshening up of the frame etc. I rebuilt the front calipers. There was already a new power brake booster and new master cylinder with two compartments. I just bled the brake again and noticed that the brake fluid in the rear compartment of the master cylinder fed the fluid to the front brakes. This doesn't seem correct to me. Is it possible that these are reversed and therefore there is not enough braking to stop the vehicle?
It also seems that the pads on the brakes are dragging as the disks don't spin without some pretty good pressure?
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, I am also the member of several other automobile organizations, because I have several other collector cars, but I am very impressed that the Avanti AOAI organization and their magazine.

Did you actually go back to a separate voltage regulator?
Yes exactly like the original, plugged right in.

I visited the forum a couple of weeks ago and the was a discussion about voltage regulators and alternators. Besides my 1972 Avanti I have several Corvettes and the similarity under the hood is quite remarkable. Any way the Alternator is the exact same as a 1968 Corvette and the Voltage regulator is the same also. I just replaced both on my Avanti and they work perfectly. No conversion or modification needed. {probably other interchangeable parts I'll let you know when I run across them.

Rebuilt calipers about a month ago. There was some pitting and I was able to remove that with a dremel grinder and a lot of hand sanding with 100 grit paper. Assembled with a rebuild kit and so far no leaks. Saved a bunch of money by doing it myself. Of course all rubber hoses had to be replaced to get fluid to all brakes.
Thanks for all the help.

Great information and very helpful to a newbie Avanti owner. I am currently out of town and will pursue these suggestions next week.
Thanks
Ted
Re; calipers for sale, I'll have to get mine apart to see what I have.
Thanks

Some Bendix wheel cylinder kits came with the car but I am afraid that the cylinders are pitted. I haven't got there yet but was wondering how one would hone them smooth if the are pitted.
A picture of the caliper showing cylinder/piston on each side attached.
Sorry, Unfortunately I was not able to send picture as the file was too big.

My 1972 has it and it is exactly the same as a Corvette shielding.

I am the new owner of a 1972 Avanti. The car sat for a long time and the front brake calipers appear to be stuck or very stiff. I believe they are the original style with dual cylinders one on each side of the rotor and are held on to a center structure with 4 bolts.
All the local parts houses and on-line have replacement calipers listed but they are single piston and do not resemble the ones on the car at all. What are these for?
I took one of the piston/cylinders off and pulled it apart and the cylinder wall is pitted. Has someone out there rebuilt these, and if so how does one hone out the cylinder?
Any suggestions besides buying rebuilt ones from a Studebaker parts supplier for $90 a piece, 4 required?
Thanks, Ted
Brakes only slow the car and won't stop on a small incline

That's right front brakes rear reservoir. I was told all GM master cylinders are that way.
