Possible rim sizes for avanti II

79avantiII

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is my first posting as I recently fixed up my dads 79 avanti II and was wondering possible rim combinations. I measured my stock steel rims and they are 15x6 with a 4" backspace. I am interested in the Magnum 500's on the internet but they are 15x7 with a 4"25 back spacing. Will this combination work or will I get any rubbing on a full lock turn. Any help would be appreciated as I am having trouble finding any tech information on this car. Thank you

I have a 70 Avanti II, and am running the Magnum 500 15X7 rims with no problems - 215R65's on front, 225R65's on the rear - plus I have one coil cut out of the front spring to drop the nose a bit - no clearance problems at all.

The only problem I ran into, was finding someone who actually had the rims in stock - and that included the manufacturer - I ended up getting mine from TONY BRANDA - the Mustang/Cobra people.

Good Luck

You should be able to run up to a 4.5 inch backspacing without clearance

issues. I am running 17 x 8 with a 5.02 back spacing, but my Cobra brake

setup uses the rotor as a spacer giving me 4.75 backspacing. Its still not

enough, and I get rim contact on the upper front threaded bushing. I am

looking into an adjustable steering stop to solve that, I could also use a

1/4 spacer, the studs I used in my modified hubs are long enough.

Thank you both for your infomation. Its seems that the 4.25 backspace works fine as I have no clearance issues. 17 inch rims would have been much nicer!!!!
