If a customer wanted to order a four speed transmission in his new 1964 Studebaker Daytona, he'd have to spend......?.......

1) $165.......2) $189........3) $217.....or    4) $235

2) $189, assuming that it was already a V8.

Sure, I think they "could" have done it, by using the adapter plate from the 8E trucks that adapted a V8 bellhousing to the OHV 6 engine.

My point was that there were six cylinder Daytonas and that it would cost more to make that installation than with a V8 (that I quoted the price on).
