In 1966, Avanti Motors stated that the 327CI Corvette engine, which powered their 'new' Avanti ll, exceeded the power output of the original Studebaker Avanti (R1) by .....?..... horsepower.

1) 50.......2) 75.....3) 100.....or.....4) 125

I believe early Avanti II literature stated the Stingray engine…they never said “Corvette”…put out “nearly” 100 horsepower more than the original Avanti.  A bit of hyperbole but hey…that’s advertising.

Gunslinger & Regnalbob have the correct answer here (3):).....I agree 100 (or nearly 100) is a bit optimistic over the R1's advertised 240 HP!

R1s were rated at 240. I believe that 300hp 327 Corvette engines were used in early Avanti IIs. So, the math would say 60. My guess is that they were comparing it to the 225 version of the Stude engine. Therefore, I will say 2) 75.

This is probably what the actual answer is!:o
