A driveshaft 'slip joint' for a 1963 Avanti with auto trans will not interchange with one from an '83 Avanti with auto trans, but there is also a major design difference between the two 'slip joints'. What is this design difference?

Wouldn't an '83 have an overdrive GM HydraMatic compared to the Borg Warner PowerShift?

Yes, the two year Avantis ('63 & '83) used completely different auto transmissions,.....but everything behind the trans was 'ABOUT' the same....except that darn slip joint!!..Any other thoughts on this one?

Answer....The universal joint bearing cups are pressed into the driveshaft slip joint of a '63 Avanti,....On an '83 Avanti, the universal joint bearing cups are retained to the slip joint by means of individual metal 'straps' and bolts. (Two straps and four bolts per slip joint)
