mfg Posted January 8, 2015 Report Share Posted January 8, 2015 A driveshaft 'slip joint' for a 1963 Avanti with auto trans will not interchange with one from an '83 Avanti with auto trans, but there is also a major design difference between the two 'slip joints'. Yes, the two year Avantis ('63 & '83) used completely different auto transmissions,.....but everything behind the trans was 'ABOUT' the same....except that darn slip joint!!..Any other thoughts on this one? mfg Posted January 11, 2015 Author Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 Answer....The universal joint bearing cups are pressed into the driveshaft slip joint of a '63 Avanti,....On an '83 Avanti, the universal joint bearing cups are retained to the slip joint by means of individual metal 'straps' and bolts.
