This seems like a very good deal. The lack of description raises flags re scam or something radically wrong.

I have a NOS pair of 1761665 coil springs. Does anyone know what specific years these are for? thanks
-
Are these that hard to find or are a couple bidders just battling it out?

Well, I finally took it to the Dupont store. They put the scanner on and it is a very very close match to Ferrari Red

I have never bought from him but have heard good things from folks whom have

Does anyone have the paint code for the red used on 88 Avantis?? My convertible was originally grey but was repainted red by the Avanti factory prior to delivery when new to Jeff Cook of the band Alabama. As a result the paint code on the car itself is for grey and not red. I would like to touch up a few small scratches. Thanks

I bought this 84 touring coupe several years ago but sold it to buy my convertible. It was repainted by the original owner from red to two tone red and black. He supposedly did this after seeing other Avanti's two toned.

Yes, I have one pipe coming from the converter going into the muffler under the trunk and then two exhaust pipes coming off the muffler, this car had 20,000 on it, I just replace original hoses and belts, I am thinking this is original to the car. My brother has an 88 Monte Carlo he bought new and it has a similar system.
It is a clamped system and not welded. I tried to get a name off the muffler but it must be on the side facing up. There is a lot of insulation above the muffler as it lays tight against this insulation and thus the trunk floor
Thanks

Does anyone know what muffler was used on the 88 convertibles? I have one in port and two out, it sits under the trunk. I looked and it does not appear to be a monte carlo. Thanks

Milt, In the 1 1/2 yrs I've had my 89 convertible, I've never unzipped the window. In fact I never saw the zipper until the upholstery guy pointed it out last summer. It still has the original canvas top which looks in good shape and doesn't leak as far as I can tell. My upholstery guy did point out that the rear window had been replaced, showing me the stitching was crooked. The window has some scratches and is starting to slightly discolor, so I'll need to replace the window one of these days. Too bad they glass rear window like the Mustang was never used. It would have been much classier.
One annoying thing I have with the top is the front top lock on the drivers side. It will vibrate loose while driving down the road and can even pop loose on a bumpy road. It has come lose a couple of times on 294 around the Chicago area, making it fun driving and grabbing the lock handle trying to put the pin back in the hole at 70 mph! Only the drivers side will vibrate loose. I've gotten into the habit of periodically reaching above the visor and pushing the handle forward against the windshield frame to make sure it doesn't vibrate too far.
Milt, doesn't your 88 look like my 89 with the Avanti (Lamborghini) Red body, black leather interior and black top? I envy the trunk space you have in the 88 compared to my 89. My gas tank is under the trunk making the floor flat in the trunk and the spare with a huge carpeted tire cover taking up about half the space in the trunk.
Yes, mine is like your 89

I have an 88 convertible and am curious if most owners of similar convertibles let the window zipped in when putting the top down or if they unzip it before putting the top down.
It is no longer easy for me to get in the back seat to unzip it that is for sure. I have mine currently unzipped but have put the top down with it zipped also.
Thanks
Milt

In Issue 169 of the Avanti Magazine page 15, Milt Yoder indicated that he was told that some Avantis had a problem with fires with A.C controls and that might be why the belt is missing on his Air Conditioning compressor. The belt is also missing on my 1981 Avanti. Is this a problem with my car such that I should not try to fix the air conditining. Is there a fix for the potential fire problem?
Thanks,
Don
Dan Booth is the one that warned me of the AC issues

I hope you can bring it to the SDC/AOAI International Meet in St. Louis in August. I bought an 88 Convertible last year and it is a nice riding car. ENJOY (and your dad will be up there smiling every time you drive it)

True and false---- the front mounts will interchange as long as you do not have an R3. They will not interchange on an R3. The rears interchange with the 58 Pres with a V8 for an automatic equiped car.. The rears for standard trans cars including 4 speed will interchange with a 4 speed mount but the original ones for the four speed were actually different, in that they were lower on one end for easier access to the mounting bolts. So the answer for the rear on standard transmissions is they will interchange even though they are different

Anyone have one of these they would like to donate to the AOAI memorbilia collection???

Stumping both Lew and Brad, could this be a first?

In November 63 Sherwood Egbert stepped down as president due to cancer and was replaced by Byers Burlingame, a name we seldom see discussed as president of Studebaker.

Thanks for doing this, if you look at the number of posts you will see almost as many on the Trivia topic as on the rest of the forum. I think this topic will help get this forum more active!

If you are talking body serial then False, my 67 has the ID plate on the door post and my 84 was also on the door post.
If you are talking about the engine serial then it is also false as on the 327 it is on the passenger side front of the block
-
False, not pot metal

I have been informed of a third!. I have been told by our own editor that Richard James owns a convertible, John Drake has a coupe and John Hull has a coupe!
-
How many were built? John Hull had one he recently bought in South Bend at the Avanti House open house.

Are you asking if the headlamp sw is interchangable 63-83, the heater sw is interchangable 63-83 and the instrument sw is interchangable 83-63 OR are you asking for the years of 63-83 are the three mentioned switches interchangable with each other???? I believe for the Larks the three mentioned switches are interchangable with each other. For Avanti the light sw was a dual and the heater is a single so they are not interchangable.
