Our Raymond was a busy boy! Or more accurately...his employees were the busy ones. He made suggestions, gave the approvals and gets all the credit. Kind of like politicians...I won't name any but more than a few names come to mind.
The truth is out!

Loewy's firm produced over 3,000 designs for NASA from 1967 to 1973. Their designs for the space agency would fit perfectly in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Loewy at NASA

A new Don Wieland Avanti painting has been added to the artist's Avanti Collection. Titled "Time Machine" the painting depicts a 1964 burgundy Avanti with the H.G. Wells Time Machine. The Avanti is, in its own way, a "Time Machine."

Avanti Magazine features an original painting by artist Don Wieland on the cover. The painting won the "Artistic Award" from Stellar Scholars for the artist and was the inspiration for young writers to compete in the Stellar Scholars "Aurora Awards" scholarship program. This was the second painting by Wieland commissioned by Stellar Scholars; it depicts the Avanti with sleek, silvery disks piloted by beings of alien origin. The first painting depicts an Avanti with the old Studebaker plant and an early-sixties South Bend skyline. Reproductions of both Wieland paintings are available in two formats exclusively at TheAvantiStore.

Who legally owns the Studebaker name? The Avanti name? Is it Michael Kelly? Or is it someone else? Would anyone buy a brand new 2015 Studebaker Avanti if it resembled the original? Can this group offer a consensus that a market for that exists? Would anyone dare gamble on Avanti after the AMC debacle? There is a 2014 Chevy Camaro, why not a Studebaker Avanti? Ok, I know how unlikely that is, but I would appreciate any input on a possible future Avanti. Avanti site: www.theavanti.net/contact.html

Thank you for this clarification. I did not know the R3 was considered so early. A visitor to my Avanti site asked why there were no production statistics for 1963 R3 engines and I did not know the answer. Is it fair then to say that there were no 1963 production statistics for the R3s?

Can anyone tell me how all nine R3s can be 1964 models (beginning with serial number R5089, Aug 1963) since Granatelli is often attributed with racing the first R3 in April 1962? Has an early prototype been incorrectly labeled as an R3? Or were there R3s in 1962? There seems to be an error somewhere. My R3 page is Here:

Don Wieland's painting of a 1963 Studebaker Avanti is now available as a 11 x 17 poster for framing. The painting is a tribute to the Avanti, Studebaker, and the South Bend skyline in the 1960s. View the poster art at http://www.theavanti...store_gold.html

Car Buzz is a great site for all car news. Recently they did a photo spread on the Avanti. I have added a page to www.theavanti.net/carbuzz.html featuring the car and links to Car Buzz. The car shows Texas tags 7P 3S so if anyone knows about the car and owner, I will add permissions and photo credits.

Gattaca leaves much to be desired, but it was nominated for an academy award for Jan Roelfs' art direction. From Wikipedia: Gattaca received a "fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes with 82% of the 55 critics cited giving the film a favorable review. Roger Ebert stated, "This is one of the smartest and most provocative of science fiction films, a thriller with ideas." James Berardinelli praised it for "energy and tautness" and its "thought-provoking script and thematic richness."
An interesting thing to note is that on the original VHS release the Avanti was only visible for a flash, but in the DVD version three or four scenes of several seconds have been restored. Image captures from the film are on TheAvanti website at: http://www.theavanti.net/gattaca.html . I am also the author of a 2 min video film on YouTube which has had almost 2,000 visits:
. The video shows dozens of scenes from the movie and features almost all the scenes with the Avanti including Vincent "charging" the car from a front bumper port! -
John,
The Avanti website at www.theavanti.net has a number of items for sale in The Avanti Store. These include the Avanti Chronology which is here http://www.theavanti...chronology.html . It lists, on one page, the condensed story of the car from 1961 through 2006. When you click on the image of the chronology on the page a PDF version opens that is printable.

The title should say Micky Dolenz, not Ricky.

Thanks to a tip from Avanti owner Chuck Kinzer, I have been able to add Micky Dolenz of the Monkees to the list of celebrity Avanti owners on www.theavanti.net. Dolenz was the first owner of one of five 1989 Avanti Convertible Rally/Sport models. More here: http://www.theavanti.net/dolenz.html

Studebaker Avanti Models Portray Police Vehicles in Wild Palms

Wild Palms first aired in May 1993 on the ABC network. The sci-fi drama deals with the dangers of politically motivated abuse of mass media technology, virtual realities in particular. It was based on a comic strip written by Bruce Wagner and illustrated by Julian Allen first published in 1990 in Details magazine. Anachronistic elements include 1960s cars (like Studebaker Avanti police vehicles) and Edwardian fashion. Wild Palms
