Sure...I'll list all eight............Avanti Black, Avanti White, Avanti Turquoise, Avanti Gold, Avanti Red, Avanti Gray Poly, Avanti Maroon Poly, and Avanti Gold Poly- Studebaker code P-6337. (Not to be confused with 'Avanti Gold' Stude code P-6333
The codes are for 1963 and not 1964. There is no P-6337 in dealer fact books, only P-6333 for Avanti Gold in 1963.
For 1964 all paint codes started with P-64.
Gold is Gold . You cant count it as two different colors. The answer is seven.
Gold P-6433
Black P-6430
White P-6431
Turquoise P-6432
Red P-6434
Gray P-6435
Maroon P-6436
These numbers had to be specified on the dealer order form.

No, five wasn't the amount of different exterior colors offered by Studebaker for the '64 Avantis....The correct answer is EIGHT!......... Answer to question...FALSE
Can you tell us what the eighth color is?
-
True.
-
Studebaker offered seven colors on their Avanti for '64....True?
True. If you only include colors offered by Studebaker and not a special non Avanti color.
Black (special order), White, Turquoise, Gold, Red ( discontinued October 1, 1963), Maroon and Gray.

False...it directs cooling air to the automatic transmission if the car is equipped with one. No automatic...no function.
The left side grille directs more air to the drivers side fresh air vent. The console was cooled from the right side grille. A Console Cooling Kit was made available for earlier models.

Does anybody know how many Mustang based 2006 and 2007 Avanti's came out of the Cancun factory before its early demise? Or who might know some facts about these last produced Avanti's? I just purchased a beautiful low mailage 2007 and have been searching for the answer to this questions for a few weeks. The internet is full of old conversations on this subject where a lot of folks appear to be guessing, but I am wondering if anybody even knows.
The production numbers from the book by John Hull.
2005 .... 8
2006.....10 Est.
2007.....20 Est.

True.

Hmmmmm!...Regnalbob your 'false 'answer is correct!.....but I'm pretty sure your Kelsey Hayes answer isn't.
I'm pretty sure it is. I have 5 Avanti wheels with the tires removed. Stamped on the inside is 15x5 K and Kelsey Hayes. There may have been others besides Kelsey Hayes who made wheels for Studebaker.
-
False... Kelsey Hayes.
-
No, not really....The question referred to 1963 Avantis....not 1963 'transition models' or 1964 Studebaker Avantis!
The all black interior (813 BKV) introduced in May of 1963 included the "S" door panel ornaments.

Those nuts are welded to the bumper. Just spray some penetrating oil on the exposed threads and remove the bolt from behind the fender.

I have a new windshield installed but need dimensions to place the mirror properly.
I assume horizontally on center but height from dashboard ?
Thanks
....Dick
In the factory location the top of the base is 3 3/4 inches from the bottom of the windshield, measured from the outside edge of the windshield rubber seal.
A Service Letter from 1-29-1964 moves the mirror higher for better vision if desired. Measure 3 1/2 inches DOWN from the top of the windshield rubber seal an locate the top of the base at that mark.

Thanks, Bob. that picture is just what I was looking for. Looks like you have the 4speed transmission as the hole is there for the clutch rod. If I could ask one more favor, any idea how big the hole is?
Mine is an automatic. There are two plates, one for standard trans and one for the automatic.
Measuring across from the small hole on the left it is 3 1/4 inches wide. It is 3 5/8 inches high.

Hi all,
My 64 Avanti appears to be missing the plate that bolts onto the engine side of the firewall for the steering column. Additionally, it looks like the hole in the firewall was 'adjusted' sometime in its previous life. Does any one know where I can get the missing plate? Can any of you with an empty engine bay get me a photo of the firewall where the steering column passes through - preferably without the plate so I have some idea of how to repair this area?
Thanks,
The seals and plate go on the inside. Try Myer's Studebaker, 740 674-4897

Can anyone tell me how all nine R3s can be 1964 models (beginning with serial number R5089, Aug 1963) since Granatelli is often attributed with racing the first R3 in April 1962? Has an early prototype been incorrectly labeled as an R3? Or were there R3s in 1962? There seems to be an error somewhere. My R3 page is Here:
The R-3 in the Avanti was going to be offered early in production but never made it until the 1964 model year. While others, including Granatelli put an R-3 in the Avanti only nine were built by the factory.

There were 75 1964 R-2s built with power windows. This is from The Studebaker Avanti Production Data from the Studebaker National Museum.

I am getting ready for my winter projects and the replacement of the hog troughs is on the list. The 2 options Are the straight replacements or the 2 piece replacements which are about $400 more. Since both require unbolting the body to some degree I am wondering how much more trouble the original style is to do. I have all the tools including a 2 post lift and experience. Is the $400..00 difference worth the extra work sincer I have all the equipment? Do the originals get bonded into the rocker panel like the 2 piece or is this one of the big advantages of the 2 piece reeplacements?
.
This may be of help to you.

I am doing a body off restoration on a 1963 and find that the one piece torque boxes are easier for me because I dont have to do any welding. They have bonding strips attached to them and get bonded to the rocker panels just like they came from the factory. These are made from the original dies and fit perfectly. I found that most of the rivet holes in the body from the old boxes match the holes in the new boxes.

I often have people ask what my '78 Avanti would have sold for when new. I don't have any documentation from the original sale. Would anyone have an idea of what the typical "base price" would have been in '78?
-
I was wondering if there is an online index to articles appearing in Avanti. Or maybe specific print issues have indexes in them? Thanks.
The 2011 Avanti Roster has an index.

The Studebaker Avanti Production Data from the Studebaker National Museum shows that 64 1964 R-1 Avantis with 4-speed were built.
41 with out air and 23 with air. I don't know what the survival rate is, but this will give you a starting point.

thanks bob!
thats exactly what i was hoping to see, and thanks for the position info as well.
know anyone selling one? is 1555874 a part number?
if not i can fab one up just from the pix,
looks like it was designed to be adjustable in both directions.
seems like the location you specked is important to get the p/s pulley in the right plane, right?
newton
That is the part number for the bracket. Try Myer's Studebaker in Duncan Falls,OH. 740 674-4897. It not only keeps the pulley aligned but it would be necessary to remove the bracket if you wanted to remove the P/S pump.
