  1. Here are some progress pictures of the Viper differential assembled with Corvette style rear suspension in the stainless steel chassis. The half shafts, tie rods, and camber bars are fabricated new. The half shafts are aluminum, the tie rods aluminum with stainless heims, and the camber bars stainless tubing with stainless heims.

We should be assembling the rear knuckles and spindles shortly. Trusting that it should work out to a 58 inch wheel mounting face width. B)

  2. There is a guy on the forum that is making new frames for Avantis that will

use Corvette front and Viper rear suspensions. If those parts were got from

used sources, then if might be close to wht you will spend for a used frame,

repair costs for it, and then rebuilding of the entire suspension.

I just wish that he had just used Corvette front AND rear suspension. Viper

stuff isnt as common as Vette.

    Tom,

We are using Corvette front and rear suspension on the stainless Avanti chassis. The only item from the Viper is the differential and it's support, for the Corvette's rear support is way to wide for an Avanti. Incidently, the Viper Super Dana 44 is sometimes less expensive than the Corvette Super Dana 44.

It would be less expensive to find a used Avanti chassis and rebuild the suspension than purchase a new stainless one.

Currently working on designing & fabricating the adustable camber bars with heim joints.

Here is our new aluminum half shaft, same as the Corvette only shorter.

  3. Here are some photos of the new Avanti independent front suspension mounted on a stainless steel cradle. The calipers are C5 Corvette adapted to the C4 forged aluminum suspension, with the Corvette logo removed. These are being utilized with the C5 rotors. These are approximately 1 1/4 thick rotors, as compared to the 7/8 to 1.1 on most Camaros and Mustangs.

May leave them plain or install a vinyl Studebaker or Avanti logo.

  4. We have added the crossmember that will support the front of the Dana 44 differential, as well as the rear crossmenber at the spare tire well. We will be omitting the tire well in this instance, however the frame is designed to clear it if so desired.

I don't know if many attend the Springfield Ohio Cars & Parts Swap Meet and Car Show this Memorial weekend, but we may be showing this chassis. as well as a stainless '57 Chevy chassis under construction.

  5. Here are some new photos of the progress on the new Avanti chassis. Still in need of an Avanti body, so contact me with any leads: grobb284@aol.com

We have just recently tacked in the X-member. This may be stronger than the original Avanti X-member. The reason for no provision for the drive shaft in the X-member is because the drive shaft rides 3/8 inch above it.

This shows the installation of the Viper differential assembly. It too is a Dana 44 like the original Avanti, so it seemed appropriate to install it. The plan is to install independent Corvette suspension off of it.

This is a '57 Chevy chassis under construction, with the Avanti in the back ground.

  6. Here are some photos of the machined members of the new stainless Avanti chassis being checked on the body.

The frame rails are larger than the original 2 x 3 3/4, being 2 x 4. There will be an X-member when completed.

The frame clears the spare tire well adequately, but in this instance the tire well will be removed when a body for the chassis is found.

Still in need of a 63/64 Avanti body or complete car, will consider an Avanti II. Email :grobb284@aol.com

  7. Presently constructing a new chassis for an Avanti, and am in need of an Avanti body. Prefer 1963/64 but will consider an Avanti II.

Looking for a body that either has no drive train or the chassis is of no use.

The body should be in good condition as far as no or minimal fiberglass damage.

Hog troughs are not a problem. Would prefer they be good, but will accept one that requires replacement.

This is the independent Dana 44 rear end that we are working on:
