Marry Christmas and stay safe!
Our house (eastern panhandle of WV) last weekend. We have a fresh coating of ice on the roads today.

We paid about the same a few years ago for new leather from roll bar forward (seats, door panels, headliner and A pillars) and wool carpet in cabin/trunk.
Fresh interior completes the impression of a much newer car. The incredibly timeless design of the body is remains fresh after fifty years.
As much as I enjoy doing my own work, there isn't much chance I could have come close to producing a similar quality interior in a reasonable amount of time. I get paid fair enough for what I'm good at and don't mind paying someone with a different skill set for quality work. My hat is off to those that obtain great results on their own.

Weather was nice on Sunday. I took the car out to clear cobwebs and hear the 350 singing at 4000 rpm. :-) Here are some pics of the car across the street from the C&O Canal park ranger headquarters near Shepherdstown, WV.
Post recent pics of other Avantis when you get a chance . . .
Happy Motoring,

Details please . . . I'm about 90 minutes north in Martinsburg, WV.
Thank you,

I've been curious about the namesake of our vehicles too. Glad you got to see one up close and personal. Thanks for posting the pics!

There are pics of steering hose connections to the valve body on the Yahoo Avanti group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/avanti/photo...=20&dir=asc

Bruce:
A battery tender is exactly what should have been used to prevent battery discharge. Once battery voltage is too low to crank the engine, isn't a "battery charger" required? Should I jump start the car, take a nice extended highway cruise to recharge the battery and then use the tender to maintain battery charge?

RQB 3496 hibernated most of the winter and now the battery doesn't have enough voltage to start the car. I've never had a battery charger before but suddenly it seems like a good idea.
I was looking at this one: Harbor Freight Battery Charger
but it looks a bit cheaply made.
Any recommendations for a light use battery charger are welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Other than a regional SDC meet a few years ago, the only Avanti sighting I've had is my own! Oh yeah, Gunsliinger stopped by with his red '02 several years ago . . .
Maybe we should move to Chicago!

what's the trick to getting the insert image to work?
Where are you hosting the picture? Most image hosting sites have a link for inserting images directly into a bulletin board message. I usually just past the "image" code directly into the body of a message. It should look something like this: {IMG}http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a43/jmenacker/SDC-Meet-Martinsburg/MyersAvanti.jpg{/IMG} except with square brakets around the IMG code instead of curly brackets.

Has anyone set up a system to use an Ipod. I don't want to remove the radio from the dash. I had seen somewhere a vintage suitcase was in the trunk with the stereo mounted inside.
A wireless transmitter works fairly well as long as the radio includes FM reception. No modification to the car is required. Griffin ITrip Ipod Transmitter

GunSlinger, thanks, I'll give him a call right away.
Trunk release button is located on the left hand panel inside the glove box on our '82.

Hey, I've seen that car somewhere before.
Don does great work and is a tremendous human being too. Highly recommended.

What make/model gas tank cap is interchangeable with the cap from my '82 Avanti?
We purchased a Stant gas cap from Betty Booth at Nostalgic Motors (800)-AVANTIX or http://www.avantiparts.net/. Unfortunately, the cap appears to have no product identification number.

Hello everybody, i'm new in this topic and maybe you can help me; i've a 1968 avanti II and i've searching an upper stainless strip moulding for my winshield, in good used condition or in NOS.
Thanks for your help
David from France
Best sources are probably Dan or Betty Booth via email: info@avantiparts.net or Jon Myers http://www.myersstudebaker.com/
Good luck in your search,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. My heart sank after reading of the total loss. We lost a car to a drunk after three years of personal sweat equity. It feels like loosing a family member.
Hopefully the good bits will help restore an needy Avanti. How is the carrier treating you so far? Hopefully no one was hurt physically.
Warmest regards,

Ernie:
'Twas a moment of temporary insanity exasperated a depressed economy. After pulling the Avanti out of the garage a driving it again for a couple of days we couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces. RQB 3496 will be staying with us for some time now.
Thanks for your concern. We feel all better now.

We have been toying with the idea of letting RQB 3496 go to a new home. Bezels are good original or newly replaced. Rear bumpers are very nice. Front bumpers are fine from 10 ft but would be nicer if rechromed. Fine, reliable driver.
Lancaster is right up the road from us. If it is still available in the fall, we will probably take her up for a visit.

Here are some pics of the spare linkage. It appears to be the link that attaches to the clutch pedal. Let me know if it might be of use to you or anyone else.
It might be a while until a good pic from under the car can be managed . . .

Luma:
I haven't forgotten you -- just been tied up cutting in a garden for mother's day! Not much was found in the garage regarding clutch linkages. I'll post a pic tomorrow of a single bracket with push rod. If time allows, I'll try to get a pic from under the car of the acellerator linkage on the engine side of the firewall.

Some left over mechanical clutch linkage parts might just still be in the garage. If you need anything, it won't hurt to post here. I'll ship what ever can be found on hand for the cost of postage.

Mike Myer at Myer Studebaker is quite familiar with the mechanical linkage set up on the Avanti. Give him a call. He helped set us up for our conversion on RQB 3496.

Our mechanic ended up going hydraulic, so pics of ours won't help.

Hog Troughs in my '77 are non-existent. Yes, I know the "debate" and am undecided where, exactly, I am in the argument. That said, I lean toward replacement and am looking for a referral to a MI, IN, or OH shop that is experienced in their replacement. My limited search in Metro Detroit has been unsuccessful in finding an interested shop. What say you?
I'm ignorant about a debate but Myer's Studebaker is in Duncan Falls, OH and they are expert in Avanti http://www.myersstudebaker.com/
Dan Booth is in MI somewhere http://www.avantiparts.net/ Thier website is being revamped but Dan should be able to help with ideas for the hog trough replacement too.
Good luck,
Joe Menacker

Congrats on finding your tangible dream!
Our '82 has two spring loaded toggles on the lower edge of the dash pad: one for the power antenna and one for power locks.
