Do the wheel alignment specs change with radial tires?
-
Several suppliers have told me, "We have an exact match." Then the sample shows up.
...still looking.
-
Try an Urban Legend site.
-
Yes, you've got the price about right & I know color match on a 50+ year installation is a challenge. Fit and grain are my biggest concerns. Studebaker Intl offers seat covers - I suspect AIS may be their source. Now, if I can only figure how to correct my typo in the subject line...
It is info on vinyl seat covers I seek.
AIS has 2 types of pleats, heat sealed & sewn; I have sewn.
More input is welcomed!

What is known (e.g. color, grain, gloss, fit, etc.) about the seat covers sold by Auto Interior Systems?
-
OK, so now I have my '63 Avanti radio converted with updated guts -- how do I install the darned thing?
-
tire is Coker 6.70-15 on 15x5 Studebaker wheel -- now able to stuff it all in. no air in tire. didn't plan to use it as a spare anyway!
-
Isn't that the lug wrench depression?
-
Can the jack handle really be stowed in the spare well and the cover be closed completely? I'm using a fully-inflated 670-15 tire on Studebaker wheel; wheel is facing up in well.

I asked the seller about the vents. Following is the reply,
"To the best of my knowledge Most Avantis where built as R1's with A/C and most where pre sold, at the time of build if a car was to be an R2 for a few more dollars the A/C was removed and a Paxton Supercharger would go in place of the A/C compressor, you will find that most R2s have A/C vents and controls..ive seen round vents and square vents..i also owned and just sold one of the more rare cars automatic,A/C,Supercharged, Black on Black."
...interesting!

Like Avanti, Avanti II, AVX...the literature is confusing. At best. Thanks.

i seem to recall the original Studebaker fiberglass body was 130 pieces +/-. it was shortly in-sourced after production (still as 130+/- pieces?). i believe it was later re-done as one piece+/- possibly when moved from South Bend to Youngstown. what is known? tnx, BillyBob

Thanks - quite a story! Yes, curiosity got the better of me and I, too, disassembled the switch. Mine was sealed with tar-like material. What a mess! Wires had good connections and bellcrank moved freely. One terminal inside the bakelite cover has some kind of discoloration - does not look like corrosion. Inside was clean and filled with oily-like substance. One day when I've lots of spare time, will clean terminals, attach new gender-appropriate connectors to new wires and solder to switch connectors. Will probably use liberal amount of dielectric grease on reassembly. ...and make trial installation on car. I attempted to take ohm measurements on old and new switches and really couldn't make much sense of what I measured other than new switch had consistently higher readings.

I recently found this gas cap on eBay. Does it "appear correct" for '63 Avanti? See,
Thanks, Bill

have you tried Nostalgic Motors at 800/282.6841 or this site for parts built prior to 1972,
I wish you the best!

I recently replaced my 3-speed back-up light with NOS -- lights now work. I tested the removed switch for resistance (ohms). They were very low as compared to NOS. I suspect internal contacts are dirty. What experience is there in rebuilding/rehabbing old switch? Thanks, Bill
-
thanks!...i've contacted Mike and he seems very capable and competent - now working to a 6-8 wk backlog. while i'd like conversion in a smaller chassis - seems not possible with current technology.
can't find instructions for Avanti radio remove/replace. seems like removing tunnel side cover may provide access -- do i need know more?
...the Blaupunkt - about 1/3rd the size of Avanti's Delco, was very easy to remove.
-
looking to replace my Blaupunkt radio with OE radio converted to solid-state AM/FM. what is experience in doing this and can anyone recommend a shop for the conversion. ideally, the converted OE radio could be put into a similar-sized chassis as the Blaupunkt for ease of installation.
the Blaupunkt radio appears dealer-installed - this, based on a sticker on the radio chassis. the Blaupunkt may have been tied into an amplifier installed in the trunk, under the package tray.
...what interest is there in the removed Blaupunkt radio? it was functional when removed. the radio comes complete with a custom-fabricated faceplate.

The vacuum guage on my '63 has intermittent operation at best. Lines and connections checked and found to be secure. Is there an OE-type replacement? Is rebuild a possibility?

see site below for source to many makes/many models of trans parts...

located T86 NOS cluster gear and 1st/reverse slider there. waited until "fit" was assured before posting.

Looking for a '63 3-speed first gear to rebuild tranny. Ideas? May be Warner p/n A5195-T86E or Studebaker p/n 154394.

tnx - i'll give them a call.

I have used CLOCKSWORKS twice or 2 different cars. Heide answers the phone 800-398-3040. They are located in Eagle River, WI. I was offered the choice of a repair or conversion. If not mistaken the price is less than $85. They are quick on turnaround. The work on my 73 Avanti II and my 64 was for repairs. Afterwords, the clock was accurate within 5 minutes each month. Not bad at all.

Erratic horn operation on '63
in 1963-64 Avanti
Posted
OK, I'll reignite the discussion. Last summer, the horns on my '63 blew intermittently. This year, not at all. Lo frequency horn toots when hot-wired; no such good fortune with hi-frequency. Relay engages - buzzing sound - when horn ring is pressed. Suspect low frequency horn is ground issue - if poor ground there, will that affect other (high frequency) horn (maybe high-frequency horn is shot?)? I'll keep chasing -- my question is, "what is replacement/repair for the worn-out pressed-nut that retains the screw that holds the horn bracket?" I can think of several, 1) use longer screw and put a second nut next to fender inner, sandwiching horn bracket, with the original on top, 2) fabricate/modify a pressed-nut/U-nut somehow. Both ideal for a 2-person job -- my arms are kind of short to do either. Bill
