  1. I recently purchased a 64 R2 (R5470), where do I purchase the proper fluid for the Paxton Supercharger?

And, this car is well documented, first owner added hood scoop, front grill and lots of bumper-etts. Yes, you are correct, all this stuff will come off prior to stripping, removing all glass and painting. Just a few mechanical issues to solve first.

    thanks, Mark

  2. I just bought a 64 R2 that replace my damaged 73 RQB1913 during a Fl to NJ transport. Regarding the Paxton, where the dip stick pulls out, is that hole used to add fluid? Where do I acquire the proper fluid as the book calls for transmission type A? Also, is there a drain if I want to do a fluid change?

    thanks, Mark

  3. I just bought a 64 R2 that will be the replacement for my 1973 Avanti II RQB1913 that was damaged during transport. The supercharger presents a few questions. First, is the hole where the dip stick is used to fill the supercharger? The second question is where do I buy the correct transmission flud that is called for in the manual?

    thanks,

    Mark

  4. Sorry for the response delay. I just purchased a 64 R2 from the son of a Studebaker dealer from 1930-1966. Though the car needs paint and some minor glass work, mechanically the car is great, the interior looks new too.

Thanks for the reply, my 73 is in Long Branch NJ and can be seen. I will sell the car complete. Asking price is at least $8500 as I have $40K of receipts in it, yea crazy for a 73 I know, but then, its an Avanti.

  5. Tell us how the '73 got destroyed! Sorry to hear it!!

My 73 was totally restored and looking great and driving better. I was having the car moved from Ft. Lauderdale to NJ for the summer. The transport company out of Cooper City Florida SHOWTIME TRANSPORTATION picked up and photographed the car on schedule. The drive caused an accident and was ticketed. The front and rear end have some fiberglass damage as expected as well as bumber damage. Lots of stress cracks and other issues. The primary is the frame is cracked, torn, bent and has separated from the body.

I am selling the car as is to the body shop who will do some repairs and try to resale.

I settled well with the insurance company only after many many many calls.

  6. I just settled with an insurance company for the carrier that destroyed my 73 during transport from Ft. Lauderdale to NJ

I am looking to buy a real nice 63 R1 or R2. An original car that has been well maintained and not one that will need $10K to make me happy. So, keep me in mind, I am ready to spend the check before my wife notices the increase in my account.

Well, I found a real interesting 64 R2. the original owner added a hood scoop, front grill from a porche and added more bumper parts. Sort of looks like someone with a few lower teeth sticking up. Not to worry, after going through all the mechanicals, I will restore the body and paint to original. this car has previously been photographed and documented in earlier Avanti magazines.

  7. My Avanti heater blower only works on high.

The switch may be dirty (I wonder why, the car's only 45 years old!). or I might need a switch.

Any guesses which it might be?

If it needs replacing, where can I get a switch?

Two firms sell part 1561930...a part common to the headlights, instruments lights and heater...but my parts book says it's only good for cars 4879 and later. My car is 2788. Will it work?

The parts book says 1557419 is correct.

    Help!

  8. So I have an '81 Avanti II and I need to replace the prop valve and the 2 front rubber brake hoses. I can't get ahold of Nostalgic so I'm trying to figure out what parts they really are. I found a mopar unit for the 72 Charger & several other models that LOOKS the same but I'd like to find out before I drop $100 on it. Same thing with the hoses they seem to be from a similar vehicle as in 60's/70's plymouth/dodge stuff. Any help guys?

Speak to Dan or Betty at Nostalgic Motors. They are closed on Fridays. Dan is an incredible wealth of information and will walk you through the entire process

  9. So sorry to say, my 1973 Avanti II was terminally damaged during transport from Ft Lauderdale to NJ a few weeks ago. So many new parts, like 73 corvette crate motor, totally rebuilt turbo 400 trany, all new a/c parts, springs, shocks, turner brakes, interior, window motors, lots and lots. Not sure what to ask for what and not sure about shipping fees, but will consider honest offers.

either cell me 917 714 8584 or respond to this. The car is in Long Branch NJ, or Parkway exit 105.

So sad, this car was a great looker from just 5 ft.

  10. I can not help with you search, but I have a request. While having my 73 shipped from Ft Laudedale to NJ, the transport vehicle got into an accident, well, my 73 is totalled. very sad and a great financial loss. I am looking for a 66 through 77 avanti II, if you see any, would you please contact me.

  11. I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for the window switches on a 1971 avanti.I would appreciate the help. thanks

I just had both motors replaced and some other work done. Also I bought new switches from a company that deals with 55-57 T-Birds (same switches) if you contact me I will give you my mechanics phone number in Hollywood Florida, he is knowledgeable and workded on them in the 70's

My Avanti is a 73 and this past Sunday was damaged during a Fl to NJ transport in a car transport accident in MD.

  12. I own an 83 Avanti II - still the original Studebaker frame and suspension, I think. For you owners who live in Broward County, FL (or south Palm Beach County), who do you use for wheel alignment? The tech who handles my 95 Jeep is afraid to touch the Avanti. He did go far enough to be able to tell me that he didn't see any slop or worn-out parts in the steering gear.

The car has developed a fairly strong pull to the right. As I read some posts indicating that the nut in the control valve assembly adjusts power steering bias, I've tried adjusting that, but it's had no effect except maybe on steering sensitivity. Anyone have any advice there?

Had to replace the oil pressure sending unit. Took the old one to a chevy dealer's parts department, got looked at as though I might be trying to hand him a rock from Mars. No, Chevy didn't use anything like that in 82 or 83. Ended up using a sender from a marine engine, 5.0 or 5.7. I can see it's going to be fun dealing with "routine" parts and service needs
