Hi All
Bob you are correct the choke relay is on the passenger side inner fender, on my 88 convertible the red light was on, and the choke wasn't working. I pulled the connector out and jumped the c & d termials, this gave me 12 volts to the choke and the choke was again working and the red light goes out, my relay has 5 wires going to it with a couple of numbers on it, one set in white 14078924 and another one in black 7124, Im not sure of the purpose of the relay but will track down an auto electrican and find out. Hi All
Thanks Ernie for all your great info, I now have an email from Pesident Mike with a breakdown of what the VIN might look like, and I am going to send this off to the licenseing people and hope that they see reason and allow the car to be registered. MrT

Thanks Ernie for your prompt reply, what I am rearly in need of is a complete breakdown of the VIN, so I was hopping some one would know how to do this, as appently the breakdown give engine size place of manufacture and body style etc. I would also like, for the Govt. people proof the the Avanti factory is indeed closed for business. Any and all help much appreciated. MrT.

Hi All
My 88 convertible also has the red light on, it is the choke light according to the manual, and the wiring diagram shows a relay in the circuit. With the light on I believe that the relay may be bad, does anyone know where to find this relay and how to identify it on the car. ?????? Mr T

Hi From what I know the 89 model's did not have len's, but they were on the 88's as mine is an 88 and has the outer lens cover.
regards, Tony.

Hi 88 convertible's use the mechanism from an 85-87 AMC Renault Alliance convertible, you can use the original frame that was modified by the people at Avanti motors, just remove the motor and track assembly from the alliance frame and refit to the Avanti frame. I would suspect the 89 to use same as 88. As an aside Dan and Betty at nostelgic motors have very good electric window switches the work very well on the Avanti. Tony.
PS feel free to contact me at my email address a.trist@xtra.co.nzl

The Left Rear Window Regulator on my 89 Avanti Convertible is bad. Does anyone know what cars originally used these, I'm have a difficult time tracking down the replacement. The motors are good the cables bad. And it looks like they actually welded the regulator channel to their metal frames, so rather than grinding the welds and re-welding in the new ones I just want to strip the parts of the new ones to rebuild the old tracks in place.
Here is the information I was able to retrieve off the old one:
LEFT SIDE
Left Side is a Bosh Brose FPE12V013821098
680-54691
499
BOSCH BROSE
Window Slider 54242
RIGHT SIDE
Right Motor is a SIEMANS 12V-1BB-32

Hi Ernest
Are you wanting the header seal across the front or the side seals. the side seals can be otained from Steele rubber products, www.steelerubber.com the part # is 70-1035-99 and you buy it by the FT. I to would like to know what car the front header seal is from ??? Does any body have a pt #.

Hi Nesster
I am in the process of rebuilding an 88 convertible, its not easy, as Avanti used many different suppliers for parts, like other writers I have found Betty Booth of Nostelgic motors very helpfull. I have had the body of the car to replace the rusted out steel beams that hold the body to the Monte Carlo chassis, and at present I am in the process of rebuilding the doors, quarterlights, mechanisms etc. I have amassed quite a lot of info, and have a lot of photos showing the body of the chassis and would be happy to share, my email is a.trist@xtra.co.nz
Regards, Tony.

Hi Jeff
Yes the rear widow mechanisms are from a renault alliance convertable.
Regards, Tony.

Tony, did you have any luck with this? The 89 convert I sold earlier this year needs BOTH windows mechanisms replaced (???). I had asked the factory a few years ago and was told this was from a Renault Alliance...
thx, Jeff

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come up with an answer.
Meantime, I can't help you directly, but you might try clicking on "parts" at this website:
That will bring up an email compose screen and you could ask your question there;
however, I am not sure whether that website is still being maintained as there are
currently rumors about the viability of the company.
Secondly, you might try the same at http://www.avantiparts.net/ by emailing info@avantiparts.net
That vendor doesn't service your year Avanti, but it's possible they might have the info you seek (long shot).
Barring that, you may need to remove the bad part and see if you can repair it, or see if
there are any markings on it that could help you identify it (like a Delco part number or whatever);
or even improvise something new based on what you find.
PS: you could also try searching the web for aftermarket kits that may have been used on
your car, to see if anything looks like yours;
for instance:

Hi Wayne thanks for your reply any and all help most welcome, I have some idea that the rear quarters are from a Chrysler possible Lebaron or Aires convertible. Tony.

Hi I have an 88 convertible and need information on who made the rear quarter window lift's for these
cars as mine have broken cable's and do not work, any help please. Also for better info would people please
include part #'s when replacement parts have been identified, as I live in New Zealand and part #'s are of
a great help when having to go out to order parts, many thanks.
Tony.

The front and rear bumpers on my '87 Avanti rub the body on the sides. I'm going to tighten the mounts but was wondering the proper spacing between the bumper and body.

Hi
The motors are Chrysler and should be readily available make sure you check the drive gear as they are known to break one of the teeth off as they hit the up or down stop on the quadrant
