I stopped at the closed Avanti showroom in Morrow, GA (Atlanta suburb) this month. The building is vacant and NOT boarded-up. There are magazines on the desk in one of the offices and there is a Brand-X car in the garage repair area.
The building is being maintained by someone.

Are these racing Avanti's still "alive" somewhere ?
Anyone have additional photos or press on this ?
That Mid-Ohio White AV-GT looks like a killer !!
Kelly used to own the white Avanti with the dark bottom. He had it at the Villa Rica Annual Meet.

Not bad. Sure changes the look form luxury to "mean."

Went by the "Morrow" (Atlanta) headquarters of Avanti today & it looks like they are moving all the assetts out & the lot was chained & locked! Had not seen this before.
Will get pics of the 4 drs & 1 2 dr that was loaded on the truck tomorrow.
It seems evident that Avanti is out of business.
I'd like to see those pictures. It would be helpful to track the last Avanti's from Morrow.

And congrats from the Chicagoland area too.
You should be proud of your fine Avanti!

Well, at least Jim Wilson is still there. I took them up on the reduced prices for a 2006 - it was picked up on Monday. It should be here in about 10 days +/-
Congrats! Keep us posted.

A poll on your Avanti.

The new Mustang still has a live rear axle. With a Roush supercharger that developes over 400hp, the live axle is doing fine and still gives a very good ride.
For my money, the change to an independent axle is not worth it.

I called Morrow Monday & Wednesday and keep getting an answering machine.
I plan to be in Hotlanta for several days in May, June, and August. I'll drive there if we won't hear anything before then!
-
Ernie, where'd you hear this rumor? I just heard from Fred Blum this morning.
thx, Jeff
I'll call Morrow Monday and get it straight from them. (I believe Fred is at his home, and not down by Morrow/Atlanta.) Will advise.

I have heard a rumor that the Morrow, GA facility is closed or will be SOON.

1989 is the first Avanti's built on the Caprice chassis. Nine inches were cut from the frame, under the backseat floor, to reduce the wheelbase.
Your Anniversary 1987 is on a Monte Carlo chassis, and could be a Monte Carlo SS. Any "old-time" GM mechanic can look at the underside and tell you anything you need to know.

That is the two numbers I have heard, 3 and 6. Anymore comments?
I saw one at the National Avanti meet in Madison, WI.

Let's discuss this question again. How many AVX's were produced?

I'll confuse you even more, how about the 1987 to 1989 Avanti's? They do not have a Studebaker frame, so many problems are eliminated.
Now aren't you glad you asked?

Do you have the factory alarm on your Avanti? I finally took my alarm off, and the battery drain is gone!
I had several mechanics try and locate the battery drain, and couldn't. That alarm was a Caffaro Better Idea!
Also, I do have a complete wiring diagram for the 1989. It has many zeroxed pages and isn't the best in the world.

There are less than fifteen 1991 made. The convertible top and the body are different from most years. The Avanti factory was quoted as saying, "We finally got the Avanti (Cafaro models) right in 1991!" :?
